photoshop question

is there a preset filter built into photoshop that will make something look like its fading into the background?

how do you want to do it?..theres a fade tool..and i know you can do it like that?..or check the effects..not too sure..i'll check..

i want to have 27 real big in the background, but kind of fading away. i dont wanna do it with the eraser tool, that looks bogus

ok wtf..i figured out fade...but now when i save it, i want it to be a clear background. ive saved it as a .gif and a .bmp...when i do this, the background will save clear, but the faded effect does not save...i save as a jpg for the fade effect to save...no clear background.
