For all you guys with a 416 kit, i mean cam, piston, full exhaust, possible ported head...do you need an extended swing arm for your bikes, especially in a drag. I would think that the front end would pop up from all the torque like a bisnatch, mainly in the dunes over the whoops? just debating whether or not to do the 416 or the stock bore high comp??????

you shouldnt have to get a extended swingarm, just give your gas tank a little lovin when your commin off the line..(hug it with your nuts) and you should be sweet...ive rode a 416 with a standard swingarm and it was fine...its all in the tires, and mainly the driver....
you should have a peppy bike if you throw a 416 in it with all those other mods you have... good luck!

You dont need one... I lean forward and do good clutch work to keep the front end down. But with a little longer swingarm its much easier.

A pimp daddy rear shock with SSD is the ticket to keepin the front end down...

Along with all the other things mentioned. I run a sock swinger and the only time I have issues is a 1st gear start off the line.. Once your moving it's hard to get the front end up cuz it's saggin so much.. Pretty cool stuff actually.

What kind of rear shock do you recommend that is inexpensive, will a 450R shock work or no...i dont have very much money left after spending on motor?

Was it a bolt on or what did you have to modify to get it to work right? Any pics??

I've always had the understanding a 250R swinger wouldnt' work on a 400ex. This is a first....

The 88-89 250R swingarm will not work. The 86-87 might but I wouldn't call it much of an upgrage since it is a very weak swingarm. Rico nailed it on the head, SSD in the rear is the best fix for that problem.

I also was under the impression that the 250R swingarm will not work on the EX. They dont even look anything similar up front where the pivot bolt goes through, and Im sure the sprocket/chain alignment is different from the 250R motor to the 400ex. Im not denying that it worked for you, but are you sure it didnt require any modification??

The chain alignment is the same. I had a 250R arm on my old 300ex all I had to do was make a new mounting point for the 300 shock in the arm. The 86-87 arm made it +4. It was awesome for hills specially since it sat low. I just kind of want to see this on a 400 to beleive it for my self.

What is involved in revalving your stock rear shock and what kind of diff does this make to your suspension, and how much does this run?

Call C&D... They did mine for like 300 and its an elka ssd conversion. basically you use stock kousing and the rest is changed.
