I just got finished putting in a brand new Tusk clutch kit on my 440ex. i went to try it out and the clutch wont engage. When i try to start it in first gear the thing jumps foward like i dont even have the lever pulled. Also, i did not torque my spring bolts to a specific torque just tight with a wrench. Would this effect it at all?
Please help!!!

is this an 8 plate clutch or a standard 7 plate system? i have used the dirt digger 7 plate and it does the same thing. i had to change to a wiesco clutch basket and now have the sparks 8 plate and it has no problem. also if it came with different springs, they are probably harder so you might want to try more adjustment in the throw of your clutch handle.

there isnt a specific torque spec for those bolts, you just snug them up good.
when you installed the plates did you soak them in oil or at least coat them?
does the fingers on your clutch basket have grooves in it?
if so you need to take the clutch plates back out and file down the grooves on the basket fingers, those grooves will hold onto the clutch plates and make it not fully disengage like you are saying and lurch forward when you put it in gear.
also check the clutch cable adjustment.
