Well i would go with the yfz because it's top of everything and it does depend wat riding you'll do but i would stick with the yfz

if u have never owned a qaud before i would highly suggest NOT getting a 450. its alot of power and speed beginners do not need. if your going to be doing any kind of trail riding i would get a 400 any ways, either that or a 450r but since u havent owned a quad at all before id say get a 400. my .02

i would get the 450

i had a 400ex before i got a yamaha..

this is what i think

yfz more stable
more power
more forgiving
harder to wheelie --which is a a good thing--

but thats my opinion, but if you can pick up a yfz for around 5999.00 in your area i would do that..

I'd say Z400.

1. cheaper.
2. smoother when ridding.
3. (personal opinion) more user and beginner friendly.
4. more forgiving at lower speeds. (beginner speeds)

I would not recommend a YFZ to any first time ATV owner with no prior knowledge of how ATV’s work and with no- to- low ridding talents.

YFZ’s are for some one who can get on it and GO ride it. No put putting around in the back yard learning how to use a clutch.

I have ridden both quads (and own a YFZ), Z is nice and smooth, YFZ is a racer.

Other considerations:
Price
Dealer location
What color you like more
What kind’a ridding you plan on doin’

The cool factory is very high on both of them….and you will love either one!!!

Get the yfz450 and you will not have any regrets! You get the Z400 and a yfz blows by you at the local riding area you will have regrets!:)

Just go for a 450 cuz you will probably never be wanting more speed or better suspension.

not at all, i was just saying that IF he was doing any kind of trail riding and was going to get a 450 it should be a 450r. never said anything power weise between the two.

Listen. BUY THE z400! I own both and you can get a used z far cheaper than a yfz and th ez is way easier to ride for a beginner or the trails PERIOD! Plus with the $ you saved you can invest in motor upgrades abd suspansion when th etime comes.

Thats not exactly true, I have a KFX400 with a 440 kit and I was pulling YFZs and TRXs last weekend in Phoenix. It all depends on how the quads are set up and the riders ability. I love the YFZs and TRXs but the KFXs just handle awesome. Basically speed isn't the most important thing in MX. Ride one of each and get what you like better.

I love it when people speak the brutal truth!! I get bugged all the time about this kind of thing… “why don’t you put a race pipe on your YFZ man” “why don’t you do the cam mod” ….”why not put it on NOS”….. well weighing in at under 150lbs I don’t need any more power! sooooooo I completely agree with you zuki_rob! Save the money and spend it on things that will make your ATV more durable and/or a better handler.

somebody is scared:eek:
---------------------------------

if i gas my yfz450 with everything it gots it takes off, and does a little bit of spinning...

if i gas a z400 it takes off with the front wheels off the ground with less power... how is that rider friendly?
