my friend just put a 440 kit in his bike, and hes running the stock head pipe and slip on...wtf...there is no bottom end on the bike at all, it feels like im ridin a 2 stroke...it is fast though..real fast..beat my bike by about 8 lengths and runs not too far behind a 330r, but will running the stock pipe mess anything up? j/w...thanks..

I would think that heat would be a problem. A 440 with a stock pipe is like trying to force a lot of exhaust down a tiny little pipe.

He definietly should invest in a nice full exhaust Matt...

I have pro circuit header's for sale, that will work with any slipon, $100 shipped, email me at EXMX54@aol.com for pics.

thanks

Slipons are designed to fit the stock headpipe. If you have a head pipe that will fit a slipon it will be no bigger than stock.

AS for the no bottom end you should have more bottom than top with that slipon and a 440 kit. Jetting might be an issue on the bottom.

its a full stock exhaust, i wasnt too clear on that, but yeah he def needs a full system...i think he might buy my friends old school duncan slip on with a fmf header or a oleen <sp?> full system...

as for jetting, its a 39mm fcr with a 190 main...all i know.

go down on that mainjet. i wouldn't run that large even if you were at sea level elevation and cold temps.

it is bigger where it exits the engine, the gets a tad smaller so it will fit the slip-on. worked great on my old 416EX. Loads of topend power.

You should look into a full system soon, but for now you could port the stock headpipe. The inside welds can be grinded down so it is smooth. Hope this helps.

thanks guys.

The stock headpipe should give it more low end power if anything, as in being snappy in the lower RPM's. The restriction builds back pressure, and boosts the torque numbers. Even the full systems are designed to provide moderate backpressure for torque gains, or they would be 3 inch head pipes.
I can't see where he would hurt anything with his set up, but like others have said, a full system, that does not use a slip on will probably dramatically help the performance.

u dont get the point it is still the same size as the stocker no matter how big it is before it gets to the end. if its smaller at the end whats the difference?

Here is a thought..............TC Racing uses a custom slip on with a stock headpipe cut 5 inches shorter on highly modded motors with awesome results............So it must not be all that bad, huh?;)

depends what you want just like what was stated above you will have more torque at the low end of the powerband.

Didnt ChadExer run a stock pipe on his 500ex .. or whatever size that thing was.

If you want a mean arse holeshot a stock pipe will get it. If you want more mod and top, then a new pipe is needed.

well either way, drew has the stock pipe on his 440 and it has no bottom end, you got to ride it like an R

try different jetting, if that doesn't do it somethin else has to be wrong, it's definetly not the pipe.

definately jetting. tell that bum to pay a professional to get it right, the best would be on a dyno.

it shoudlnt matter wut diameter ur head pipe is cuz if ur head is ported...no more exhausght can come through there neways....a head larger diameter header or different header would perdy much only benifit if u have a ported head...that wut i thikn any ways adn wut i have been told

Yeah I know that. I shortened my CT pipe almost 6 inches and still run 12 disks, and it rips too. Noise is a bit louder, but not annoying, just deep.:macho
