Well, if you like kick start, you are in luck, the 250x has one!

My first time riding was on a 250x. I had a great time. My friend had it maintained very well. I managed to get it stuck in the watery mud. I guess I had to get the water out of the exhaust, but I had to kick start until I wore myself out (I guess I wasn't in good shape). Anyway, after riding the 250x, I said, "I got to get me one of these!!" And my friend said that I would probably like the 300ex better because it has electric start..... Needless to say, I took his advise. I don't think I will ever go to a kick start.... My 2 cents.

250x is a great quad and easy to find for a good price. You should be able to find them as low as $1200, but you can expect to put some money in to it right away. Were it me, I would pay up to $2500 for one in GREAT shape, but I'm talkin primo.

a 400 is just simply to heavy for a motocross track.Ive ran in the same practice session as a 400 and i killed them all in jumping theyre just plain to heavy.:mad:

I race 400's and during practice all of us guys dont even try to ju,mp big or go fast, we just try to get to know the track, so during practice you cant really tell which quads can jump better or go fast because we arnt trying to be fast. Know during a race, thats differnet.

Probly not even worth a reply, but...

In defense of ProFabATV, I know Scott Smith personally. Actually was sitting in Damons last Friday night with him. He would NOT make that claim. Maybe he agreed that a complete aftermarket X with a built engine would smoke a STOCK 400ex, but that's as far as that would go.

As for the weight thing, I'm not bashing you, but look at the weights kid. 400ex is about 375lbs. A 300ex is about 375lbs. A 250ex isn't much less. The 250ex has less HP than a 300ex. A 300ex has almost 10 ponies less than a 400ex. Pwer to weight ratio is what makes you go. The 400 has a much better power to weight ratio that a 250x or 300ex.

BTW, I own a 300ex. Other than electric start and the lack of the kicker, it's basically the same machine you have, just with a few more cc's.

Exactly. My riding buddy has a wall of plaques anf trophies from hare scrambles. He rode a stock engined 300ex and would consistently be in the top 5 every race. That means there were a lot of 400ex's behind him. And we all know that in a drag race the 400 will destroy a 300.


To me, his best finish was when he took 3rd overall and was riding a utility. A '00 Yamaha Wolverine that he got for his wife! That really mad some people mad when their 400ex's and 300ex's, etc. etc. etc. got treated to an *****-whoopin by a guy on a 4x4!:D

Well seeing as how the 250x and the 400ex weigh about the same amount and the 400 has 150 more ccs , more suspention travel , its wider - that makes the 250x better huh?
I own the 400 and the 300 , and its just fact that the 400 can do everything better except go backwards.
Now that i have a 400 the 300 never goes past the garage door.
The 300 isn't a bad bike , it can keep up with the 400 in the woods unless the terrain is extremely rocky where the 300s suspention beats you to **** ( i dunno if my suspention is wore out of not).

my bad lets talk about 2 stroke then a 250r i heard goes the same as a banshee there is a 100cc differnce there i think a 400ex goes about 65 and i would say a 250x or 300ex would go about 50 to 55 250x(243cc) 300ex(282cc) 400ex(397cc) there is about a 10mph differnce there but on a track do u ever go 65mph i dont think u do i might be wrong but i dont top out when im on a track there is a 154cc differnce between the 400ex and the 250x so i think the 250 is really good for how many cc it is thats just my .02 cents i could be wrong

Im with JabberJaw, Im really pissed I bought a new 400. Should of saved my money and bought a 250x.

350x motors are fast but not nothing real special...I raced against a rocky ridge racing built 350x numerous times last year in the 350 open class,,tons and tons of mods on this thing. All I had was a pipe and jet kit...I beat him out of the hole everytime and led him the entire race. and yeah he's a decent rider,,,he races at all the nationals..I still smoked his arse though..:eek:

I bought mine because i was on a budget then, and now, im dropping some money into it, and im probably going to be racing it, and getting some new A-arms and shocks.
Oh, those 250X guys, if you want the best, but cost effective mod,reverse your front rims. Costs you nothing, but does wonders!

Hi everyone i swear some of the thing i readon hear make me think only half the people on this forum own quads...i know scott over at pro fab also very nice..smart guy. He built my 416. He told me to my face i would have more fun on a modded 330ex than i would on a 400 thats stock so my advice is screw the 250x's i mean sure there nice bikes but unless you just dont have the money go buy a 300 or a 400 and built a newer BETTER bike. ok...ok guys

It depends on which one would be faster.
Its kind of a trade off. a 250X stock has alittle hotter cam,but, the 300EX has about 40 more cc's.
I dont know, dont care.
But,Sparky,you can put a 330EX kit, in a 250X. Their exactly the same.When your making fun of old qauds, your making fun of R's too.

Yeah, some of these posts are kinda off..... a stock 250X will not beat a stock 400EX. But, a 250X with some nice mods might be some competition. Im not saying it will blow it off the map, just it will be there.

But as far as 250's being reliable, and good mud, and trail machines, they are.Ive tried a setup on a 250X with 25 inch outlaw mudders ,that looks kinda funny,lol.

Yeah, id recommend getting a 250X if your looking for a cheap, reliable, and good trail riding machine. Its not gonna blow 400 quads, or bigger away. its just a good,fun,reliable way to have some fun.

Hey 92 250exer my 300 (sorry 4 not being to clear on that)I got ITP Holeshot MX tires now so I think that it would be more even that way & besides what does it matter i would beat him with stock tires any way wouldnt I! My friends 250x has MY old STOCK tires on it & some other mods( i think likenew sprockets & piston) I would think before u speak buddy!
