You gotta hit the water going atleast 45 mph I believe so that it'll keep the sled up . I've always hit it wide open cuz I never felt like swimming in frigid waters .

We made a run up to our old cottage a few years back with a couple Polaris Storms , XCRs and some Ski-Doos ... we had to run the lakes to get up to the cottage and it was still early in the season so the narrows of the lake weren't completly frozen yet . All we did was hold the sleds wide f'ing open for about 45 minutes straight . The guys riding in the back said we hit open water atleast a dozen times for a few hundred feet. It's an awesome feeling .... but Now I wear a floater jacket when I do lake running . I used up most of my 9 lives already ... not gunna take a chance and drown in cold water .

being from alabama, i dont think ive ever seen a sled in real life, lol but they look fun as hell. i was invited by some guys i knew at nationals to come up and ride with them in the winter, but i was always in school at the time.

Riding on water all depends on the sled. One of my old gf's had 2 2002 rmk rmk edges, and I could put the tips of the skis in the water, stop and than hammer it and go forever. Now the XLT weighed a lot more, so I would hit the water going 20-30 and that WFO once I was on the water, than once up to speed I could let off to about half throttle and cruise. When I was carving though, I was wide open;) Its much more fun in the summer, for the reason if you sink, it't not as cold;)

You should drop a 800 mod motor in that beast. Friend of mine put a 700 motor with a few mods in that same chassis and it riped, Hard:D

Quad18star you said you were goin 45 minutes wide open on water? That would have sucked if you would've run out of gas in the middle of a lake:ermm:

I think he ment 45 over the lake, but not 45 on open water, you would need mad sled skills to be able to do that. I think theres only a few guys that can actually travel accross open water for a long period of time.

There is races for sleds on water belive it or not, but eat race only last for about 10 mins.

No No No ... I meant we were going wide open for 45 minutes up the frozen lake . Wide open cuz we knew some sections were still open water , like the narrows , high current flows , etc . Most of the lake was frozen , but we didn't want to chance it .... so gas and go . We all had head sets on so we could communicate and make sure the guys in the back were still hanging with us ..... I heard my buddy come on the radio a few times and told me to keep it wide open cuz I was breaking through the ice .

Scott-300ex
12-22-2004, 10:24 PM
yeah, thats what i meant, for 45 minutes you were holding it wide open and thats a long time, lot of gas, if you would have ran out that would have sucked.

All thumb . The new Snow Hawk I believe are twist throttles . The Snow Hawks are pretty sweet ... they only have 1 ski in the front and a narrow track ... designed to be ridden like a motocross bike .

Those are junk, unless you ride in the mountains/deep powder. They don't turn well at all on anything but. And they over heat in anything less then 6 inches of powder. The track doesn't relay snow to the heat exchanger very well. A couple of guys bought them here, and recently sold them. Too many problems, and getting outpulled by a stock 440 sucked too:confused: :ermm:

holz makes snomobile suspension and uses axis shocks and i've never seen such a collection of short tracks where I ride it's a rarity to even see something under a 144 track I used to have a crazy fast 97 A/C zl 440 that we pulled the motor out of and stuck a 580 powder special motor in that had been ported and bored to a 670 by cutlers performance and if you guys watch any of the thunderstruck movies and have seen what cutler can do you know that those motors run it would go well over 100 mph but then the speedo would max out so i don't know what it was really capable of and it was pulling hard when it hit 100:eek2:
