I was wondering if the rear shock and linkage was the same from 86-89 250r?

No not exactly. From what I've been told the 86 rear shock has the longest travel. But the shocks will all mount up on other years. As for the linkage I'm not for sure, I doubt it is since the 88-89 swingers are an inch shorter. I know the dog bones are different so i assume the linkage is also.

The link that runs from the frame to the shock is the same, the 86 dog-bone shaped link is different from 87-89, with the later link being shorter to make up for differences in shock length and swing arm length.

If I remember corectly each year 250r had a different lenght shock, and a different lenght linkage to compansate for the difference in shock length. Any year shock and linkage will fit on any year 250r, you just need to have the linkage and shock be the same year.

yup..86 is the longest (and supposed to be the best of all yrs)

85(atc) -86(atc/trxr) are the longest of the dogbones, 87-89 shorter/same length

wishbone mount is diffrent on 86 than the rest of the yrs

88-89 wishbone bolt is also diffrent than previous yrs

if you run an 86 linkage w/ an 87-on rear shock.. the assend will sit squatty, if you run 86 shock w/ 87-89 linkage..it will sit higher

it throws the leverage off and affects the valving ratio's(but its really no diffrent running an adjustable strut, or +/- swingers))

Its best to keep the same yr shock w/ the same yrs linkage
