I have a 95 300ex and I am putting in a new cam chain and I have to remove the the clutch.It says in the service manual to unstake the locknut from the mainshaft on the clutch.Does anyboudy know what unstake means in dummy terms.Thanks Twerker

Twerker,

The mainshaft is the threaded rod that goes through the middle of your clutch basket. The bolt that holds it on has a little notch in it of thinner metal that is pushed into a groove on the mainshaft. This prevents the nut from loosening as the shaft spins around at a zillion RPM's. "Unstaking" it simply means using something like a small screwdriver to lift the metal up and out of the groove so that the nut can be loosened. Frankly what I will usually do is just hold the basket with a cloth and hit the nut with an impact wrench to "unstake" it.

I'm taking mine apart on sunday and cleaning and fixing everything up so i can get rid of it, you know anyone who might want it?
