Hey Guys,

I'm still new to the whole quad racing thing so that may be a large part of my problem. Anyway I had always heard that the 450r and the yfz were pretty close neck to neck. I think i read that the 450r was 44.7 hp and the yfz was 45.3. I raced a yfz today (I have only the HRC cam) and he beat me pretty handily. Is there anyone out there that has beaten that yamaha? The yfz did have a pipe. He said he started out in second. You guys have any drag racing tips?

I just have the hrc kit in mine also with stock pipe and I dragged at piped yfz and two stock yfz and till about 3rd gear I could run right with the piped yfz but when we hit 4th and 5th he started inchen away. the two stockers wasn't far behing me either. but when I raced the piped yfz with a larger guy that weighs about 300 lbs I could beat it. so weight has alot to do with dragging.

I start out in 2nd while dragging in sand. A pipe would help tremendously for you. If a pipe is not in your budget at the moment try going down to a 13 tooth front sprocket, which will make the bike quicker. Good luck and have fun whoopin up on the Yammies. :macho

it will make it quicker, but lose top speed...which might make the yfz win even more once they get near 4th or 5th gear.

Put the 14th back up front and go with a 39 rear. That's what I run in the Dunes and it seems to work really good.

I have beat YFZ's in the sand and I have been beat by them also. But once I put my HRC kit in with my Yoshi full system the 450r does alot better now!

I have a 12 front sprocket, stock rear, ESR eliminator kit, stock pipe- sparks coming soon. I weigh about 150, i crush the yfz with pipes and air mods in a 300ft drag, anyfarther they will catch.

takes practice but put it in 2nd lean with your head over the bars and put it to the rev limiter. when you launch wait till about 10 ft then start sliding back till your over the grab bar. you want the quad to spin then give it as much traction as pos. i do this w/ a slipon filter jet and 18" hole shots (like runing 13tooth w/ stock tiers) it takes practice ;)
