Hey im new here and currently I have a 2003 Yamaha Warrior,But im getting a job washing dishes at a local resturant so my dad is letting me take out a $4000 loan. With that im gonna buy a used 400ex for 2700 and im selling the Warrior for 2700 also. So with the money what should I buy?I race MX and if any of you guys go to the Harrisville ATV Rodeo you might have seen me with the black and orange Warrior.http://predator.bikepics.com/pics/yamaha-warrior-03-bikepics-184831.jpg Anyway first off I was thinking Elka shocks with long travel a-arms and a durablue axle and some handlebars probably tag,and also a big gun full system. If you guys have any suggestions and know of any inherent problems with the 400ex feel free to tell me.Thanks

Dave

if you want a really nice 400ex. Go with a walsh LT front end/Elka. A elka rear LT shock and linkage. RPM axle, hipers, 416, port, cam, carb, pipe.

That would be my plan for a 400ex. :D but instead, im doing it to a yfz.

first question- NO

idk about builders. I have a JE 416 kit, HRC cam, sparks valve springs, KandN, HMF slip, CRF timing chain, Hinson clutch, and she runs great. good power. could use a bigger carb though.

I like the HMF exhausts and get a 426 kit or 416, 39mm fcr carb, Some type of cam, Elka shocks, and holeshot or razr tires.

i would get burgrd +3's n there swingarm....some elka shocks...lonestar/rpm axle....some klaw tires n some beadlocks..burgard steering stem...bars, nerfs, kill...motor wise i would go 416 cus of reliability and it revs out faster...ross hi-comp piston 12-1 sounds good, web 450/451 grind cam some port n polishing...fly wheel shaved n a gt thunder rev box n a thunder exhaust or a sparks...n if u have some money left a gt thunder 8 plate clutch kit would help u alot...jus my .02 man

long travel is nice but it really $.......but do whatever u want

Alot of the tracks I ride on are kinda SX style pretty tight with only a couple straights what kit would give me the best torque out of corners and **** so i can power over the whoops and all that good stuff. Also if I went with the 426 is that a bore kit or stroker cause I really dont wanna spend the money to have the cases split. Sorry im really new to the EX and i know on the Warrior if you go past a 365 you have to get your crank stroked(wow that came out good lol)Anyways thanks for the help!

What year EX are you buying? Is it stock? The reason I ask, is that if I were you I would buy an already built 400EX. If you look around you can find EX's that already have the aftermarket suspension and the engine built in the $3500 - $4000 range. That'd save you a ton of money in the end. IMO.

2000 It has a pipe on it and holeshots but I have some Klaw MX's im throwing on there and im selling the pipe its a whitebrothers e-series and I really like doing the modding myself so im really looking for a stock one its not set in stone either about the 2000 im also looking at a 2001 thats bone stock im not sure yet.

That's cool, $2700 is a good deal for a stocker if it's in good shape. I like building my own quads too, I'm just shocked at the price some built 400EX's are going for.

I really like my 416 setup on the mx track. I think for the power improvement, the high compression 416/hotcam combo is a great value.

BTW: The common 426 kit is a bore only kit, not stroked.

I agree......some of the built ex's have a ton money into them and are selling cheap because most racers are going to the 450's.

if you want alot of low-end, go with a stroker. powroll has a 416 stroker(440cc) that rips for about 500. but you have to send them ur crank, so u'll have to split da case :eek2: but it's well worth the time and money.
