Hey, I just got an HMF pipe for my 1997 Honda 300ex. I was wondering, after I get my pipe and everything on...my K&N in....and my bike jetted....what would a CDI revbox do? What exactly do they do? and would it be nice on my bike? Also will i blow up my motor with iT????? thanks and ill look for some replys

they just raise your revlimiter to a higher rpm. it wouldn't do anything for your bike, except make it harder to start.

you would need it if you bought a cam that made your bike keep making power about the stock rev limiter.

i definately needed one with my cam and it worked pretty well. Everyone says that most of the cdi's have trouble startin but i haven't had a prob with mine: knock on wood, but anyway i wouldn't get one with a stock engine but thats my opinion

on the 300 a modified cdi won't affect your starting. with the pipe you'll probably be hitting the limiter a bit with stock gearing, so you could go up one on the countershaft. or get the cdi. as long as you don't just keep it pinned all the time going past your power peak, the motor should be ok. plus it gets rid of the limiter in reverse too. i think stock it cuts out around 8500-8900, and power peaks around 7800. with the pipe it should increase your overrev a couple hundred rpm, so your closer to the limiter. but go much past 9500 with the stock cam you're making noise and stressing the rod.

i've got a sparks cdi for sale if you're interested.

My son races my 300 w/ a limiter(curtis sparks) & he then borrowed a 305ex w/o one & he said he was hitting the limiter big time!! Mine you can rev the pee out of it w/ NO problems :):) He says it way better than stock!!
