I am tearing apart my bottom end and was wondering what is the best way to split the cases?

I just got through doing this and it is not very easy. I ended up buying a service manual to do it. You have to make sure to set it on the left/right side cant remember so the transmission doesn't fall out on the ground if that happens then go ahead and get yourself a service manual.

no you don't need anything special. just normal tools except the puller for the fly wheel. Put the motor on it's side ond lift one haft up. so that the tranny stays in the other half. then carefully tip the motor back the normal way and pull out the complete tranny in one piece. you have to tip it so the you can take all the gears and washer and stuff all at ones. then put the tranny in a table in one piece so when you reasemble you just have to drop it in in one piece it's alot easier
