1. your dad's full of it (no offense)
2. Its a honda! They are made for reliablilty.
3. I have a 400ex and bet the crap out of it. Only had to fix the regular maintince things.

he probably doesn't want you to get it because he knows once you get the hang of the clutch you will shred his lawn but yah the 300 is better and is still very reliable.

honestly man if your going to up from a 250ex, id go with a 400ex or a z/kfx. the 300ex and 250 are similar but different, ud be happir up on a 400.

but back on topic, the 300ex is a better quad for many reason, its chain driven, has a clutch, easier to mod up, more power/speed. any honda you buy has awesome reliability, you still have to do maintenance but the only time your gona spend money fixin a honda is if you crash.

a few questions...

How old are you?
How big are you (weight and height)
What is your riding skill?

Just watch out with the 400. A stock or near stock 250ex has very close to 13 hp. A 400 has 26-28hp. That is a huge diff.

I think you should just up for a used 400ex. You will regret getting a 300ex after a while. Once you get used to the manual clutch you will just want to keep going faster. Plus you can get a used 400 really cheap, like for a little bit more than a 250. Thats what dads do so they don't have to buy you a new toy. Thats what i learned.

i dont really wanna 400 but if i get tired of the 300 then id step up...i guess i should step up now instead of later...i just like the 300 cuz its nimble, quick, and can be easily modded.

I am 16,bout 120lbs,and like 5'9-5'10 i kno id be tall for it but... i like the way the ride...ive riden a 400 and (rite now) its toomuch power fer me! its 400ex28's 400 so yea

going from a 250 to a 300 is almost not worth it. if your tired of your 250 now youll get tired of the 300 REAL fast. ur best bet is to get a 400ex IMO. its got awesome reliability, decent power and good looks.

um because its just a quad, not a purse or skirt for a girl. it just has to perform well.

120 lbs???? well... The others seem to agree with me. The first fourwheeler i ever rode was a 250ex. I then bought my 250x and the power difference is not that big. I had my 250x for the summer and i alredy was thinking about steppin up to the 400ex. Plus you will save a lot of money doing it this way, which will make your dad even happier.

After you get use to it and take it easy for a little bit, you will start to use all the power. It just takes time to get used to a new ride.

iight thanks all i just got done talkin to him and he says that its much wiser to go to a 400...and that he didnt care what i bought as long as i thot i could handle it...but i dont wanna get a 450 or bigger...i think the 400 would be about rite but i wanted to get used to something smaller and clutch but i see that it def. would save money...u guys totally chhanged my mind!!! lol :D

In my personal opinion I think that the 300ex is a better machine. I know one thing the 300ex pulls wheelies easily!:D

What does that mean? "Got it into 5 no prob?"
Just because you get a quad into high gear doesn't mean you are riding it.

To me, it makes a bigger difference how big you are as compared to the quad. While I could put my son on my 400, he is faster on his 300. And on his 300, he can smoke folks on bigger quads anyday. Like Raptors. Why, because he knows how to ride and his quad is sized for him. The wheelie problem that I had on the 300 is no problem for him since his center of gravity is lower than mine... however, he is tall enough to have a good effect on the weight and size of the 300. He can toss it around better than he could a bigger quad. I can't stand to see a 12-16 year old kid on a quad that is too big and yes, wayyyyyyy too fast for them. When I see that, I see why the CPSC jumped on quads (ATV's) in the first place and why my son, who is sized for the 300 and is 14 can't race in a AMA or ATVA sanctioned race on it. :grr:
