xr650r in a 400ex frame

i have a xr650 engine that i want to put in a 400ex frame has any body done this or rode one would it outrun a yfz or raptor in a drag race or is it even worth the trouble any information will be appreciated thanks mike

i think dirtwheels did it a while ago..with the 650 or the 600 not sure which one. But they said it was nasty. Not sure how much trouble it would be but im sure it rips.

correct me if im wrong but i thought it was the xr 600 motor because it was air cooled , but yes putting a 650 motor in a frame will work fine my cousin did it and man it flew, tons of torque and speed it walked right by piped banshees, it was an awsome bike untill he rode it off, but as long as u get the motor aligned up in the frame u should be good. U should be able to get way more power outta the 650 if u mod it than a 450.Plus the Insane amount of torque!!!:D :D :D I wish i had picks to show ya.

did it take a lot of fabricating for ur cousin to put the engine in?

well he took the frame to a machine shop and got it lined up by them and i think paid 300 dollars canadian to get them to do it they made new motor mounts all around , all i can say is they did a exelent job.

Mike Johnson won the BITD pro class on an xr650 quad. Also The Temecula motorsports team from california have also raced the past 2 baja 1000 on an xr650 quad. A guy from Dalton, GA did this. His absolutely kicks ***! Not sure how he would feel about me telling this publicly, but his name is Terry Underwood at Majestic Welding and Repair is you wanna look him up. This guy is an absolute genius on cool stuff like this, second to none. He has also built a twin turbocharged engine out of 2 Kawasaki 1000 engines that made over 1000 HP. Look him up, maybe he will talk with ya.;)

thanks for the replies the engine is a 2000 xr650r and the 400ex is a 2001 both in perfect shape i talked to mark baldwin and hes going to port it and put a good cam in it and then im going to do the conversion i think it will be a cool dune quad
