I resently raced a cross country race on my new 450r i drop my front tooth to a 13 but it didn't seem like it was running as smooth as my 400ex just wanted to know what every one else was running it was bogging in second or hitting rev limiter in first.

well what races were u in? mid east mid south etc?
well i run a 13t on mine and like it alot better with it in a stock motor and like the airbox lid un ust better as well, i havet ran into that problem of hitting the rev alot, before teardown i was running the 13t front and an hmf cf ballance full exhaust was the only power mods besides airfilter and was running fine, as far as gearing up camel back first then tires/skids you will get mixed anwsers on which is first but tires are major imo, but either

is your only prob hitting the rev? was 3rd to high?

I have HRC kit on mine and I went with the 13 and was hitting rev limit all the time. And was getting burned on straight-a-ways.
So I put the 14 back on last week, and my friend said he was having a harder time keeping up with me, then the day before. And I know I felt the difference. Next I want to try a 39 in the rear to see if I like that. I ride trails only.

I was at the mid south winter series in salem ky. third gear was not an option way to fast for the track. I might try one more race as is then i might go to a 40 or 42 rear spocket.

for the type of trail riding i do i ran 13/39 and i worked well except for long drag races. so i bought a +9 flywheel and went back to my 14T front and a stage 2 cam. now i have low end (flywheel), lots of mid (cam) wich is also responsible for an increase up top. i still run the 39 in the rear, until i get my Rekluse.

I used stock gearing 14/38 with the HMF full system the course was really tight and slow but I really liked the stock gearing I would hate to gear down because you will get beat by the YFZ 450 Mine has got great low end power.

I was running a 13t front sprocket until I got my HMF this week. Now I am switching back to the stock 14t... you can't keep the front end down with the 13t and the hmf. :D
