CRF450R or YZ450F?

I know I am going to get a biased answer, but I am wanting unbiased answers the best I can. I am in the market for a new dirtbike. It will be used as an all purpose bike. Mainly at the dunes, mountains, and some at the mx track.

If you were going to get a new '05 450 bike would you go Honda or Yamaha and why?

Also if I were to get an '03 or '04 which bike Honda or Yamaha is better which years and why?

Any other brands I should consider like KTM or Suzuki?

i would get a crf they have a slimmer feel, they feel lighter, parts are cheapper, easier to work on, they look alot nicer

weakpoints on yamaha is clutch and tranny on honda its the valve train and u need to do the top end more often than the yamaha, i rode the 250fs and id rather have the honda

yeah you will be working on the honda top-end more often. i have had the CRF450 and YZ426F motors in quad frames. the YZ426 had a harder hit and seemed faster. the CRF was more mellow but pulled hard throughout. if you are in the dunes i would think the CRF would be better. the YZ450F is a 4 speed.

a 4 speed would be awesome for mx. Id love to have a yfz450 4 speed for purely mx.

My opinion is to get a ktm 450. Ive personaly never ridden one but ive ridden a ktm 125 and 85, very powerful bikes.

ktm are highmaintence, you dont want one get the honda, and the yami is 4 speed, u dont need 5 with that much power

If your going new get a crf. Just because that 4 speed sucks I hated it. I like my old 5 speed 426 better then both of the new ones though.

Yammi's 450 does make monster power though, more top end then my 426. Honda's cr250f and x are junk. You have to rebuild them more often then some 125 2 strokes. There 450 is a good machine though, everyone that races mx around here uses those or 02 426's. If your gonna ride offroad more, get a new wr450, or the new honda will probrably be good too.

I have a YZ 450 hybrid and the 4-speed is awesome. Im running 14-38 gearing with a + 10ounce fly wheel and it screams. The new Suzuki 4-stroke is a 4-speed so they must not think its stupid either.

ktm's 450 is a 4 speed also. i think if your racin mx a 4-speed is an awesome idea, you dont have to shift as much.

The yamaha is insane. My brother got one this summer. Its only a 4-speed ..... but whack the throttle anytime in any gear and your in a wheelie ..... wheeeeeeeeee.....

He wants to sell it this spring. He barely ever rides it. Its just too much for him. I think he wants to sell that and his Banshee and get something like a Honda 450 .....
