We all know that the much respected 250r is fast...why is this? why is a 250 2-stroke so fast? e and mybuddies were discussing this on a ride home today from riding, and we would appreciate anyinfo. Thanks!

because the whole engine tranny package is a engineering marvel, the transmission is a close ratio 6 speed gear box and is matched to the engine perfectly.

the enhancements that can be done to the 250r motor make it that much better than any motor out.(besides the new honda engineering marvel, the crf450)

In simple terms is a tight package.

2 strokes in general rev faster & weigh less than 4 strokes, and that is one reason the 250 is so quick. Also, a 2 stroke fires EVERY time the piston reaches the top of the cylinder, on a four stroke, it is every OTHER time. So a 250 turning 5000 RPM's fires 5000 times in one minute. By comparison, a 400ex running @ 5000 RPM fires only 2500 times in one minute.

Well, I was typing my own explaination of all this and it froze, so here is a decent explaination of how a 2-stroke works. Go back to the main page for 4-stroke.
