well i went out riding today with some guys from work. There was a guy on a stock 2001 400ex and we were going to line them up before we loaded up for the day to see which one is faster but....leave it to me to hit a tree stump and bend/crack my lower a arm before we got the chance. but i will posty the results when we do.:macho

ud think the 05s would be faster because of the new and improved ratios, but u gota take in consideration that the 05's weigh 15 pounds heavier, and that could effect the outcome of the race.

Looking the new machine over it looks nice. With the reverse gear i think it is the best all around trail machine .The new face lift really jazzed it up now all honda needs to do is give the 300ex a new look as well. The new 450r is fun to ride but i still like riding the daughters 400ex as well.I dont care what i tide as long as i am riding.........Chris

well no complaints here...i lovce the new quad. but i had an extra 15 tooth from my 02 and i tried to put it on my 05 and the countershaft splines are different this year which kinda sucks but oh well. stock gearing is 14/39.

My brother has a 2004 400ex and i have a 2005 400ex. We knew about the ratios and thought we would be quicker wrong. Drag race after drag race he gets off the line and at the end. These bikes were stock. We have both modified our bikes.
426 kits 11to1 compression, exhaust, hot cams stage 1. off the line we are about even, as soon as i hit 4th gear i start to pull away. The tall gears are way more helpful with the more power you apply to the bike :). He was clocked at 78 mph and i was clocked at 81 with a trail tech.

THis thing passes my brothers stock banshee on a hard surface and loose ground. That is until he hits 6th gear:)

AS of Now
2005 426ex
Wiseco 426 11to1 piston
Hot cams stage 1
REV MAX rev limiter
Clarke 5.5 gallon Tank
Dial a jet
RTC air scoops
Big gun evo x exhaust
Curtis Sparks Keihin fcr 39mm Carburetor
Msd Ignition
92 Octane for fuel:) :)
