I'm getting ready to purchase some Holeshot mx4 tires front and rear and I was looking for some opinions on sizes. I'm pretty much running a stock set up right now (Axles, A-arms etc...) I was thinking of going w/19" x 6" up front and 18" x 9" in rear. Will this perform o.k. on the track? trails possibly? how will lower the tire size effect the ride? Looking for some feedback. Thanks

Youll probably want to go with a 20" front tire for MX. The most common setup is 20X6X10 fronts and 18x10x8 in the rear. You can also run an 18x11x8 or an 18x9.5x8 in the rear if you would like but each of these sizes has their downsides... I tried a set of 19 inch fronts for a while and really didnt like them at all... Get the 20" fronts and 18" rears and youll be set man...

What are the downsides of running 18x11x8 & 18x9.5x8 versus the 18x10x8 as you suggested? Will the tire width in the rear make a huge difference in the handling of the bike? What differences did you notice with the 20" fronts versus the 19"ers?
Thanks for the help.

19s dont turn well. 18x9.5s spin faster but dont corner as well. And DONT get MX4s, they SUCK. Unless you want to get more in 3 weeks then dont buy them. Get 20x6 razrmx fronts and 18x9.5 Tamers or 18x11 Klaws for the rear.

Running stock, I would stick with the 18's (any size/shape/tread)
On the front that is a dif story. I would def go with the 20's.
Also I have run the ITP's you are talking about. They are ok. I will leave it at that. I switched to Kenda Klaws and it made a world of difference!

Thanks for the info guys especially about the Holeshot mxr4 tires. I'm on my third set of Razor/ Razor II's now and it sounds like maybe I should stick with that or the Klaws in the mx versions.
Thanks again guys!!

the itp tires are good but they don't last long.
i have them on front and back. get the tires that last
long and cost less and perform well. the pros use them
because they're gave to them. if you're like me, you can't
afford a new set quite often. my next set will be those new
kenda mxr and fronts!

Smaller tires work great on the track, but suck on trails. I trail rode my 18in tires and I got stuck in everything, even a little gravel pit.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've been riding woods most of my life and I'm fairly new to the MX track. I'm running 20x11x9 Razor 2's in the woods and wouldnt change a thing but on the track that tire gives you a work out and feels overly heavy out there.

The mxr's wear out really fast, but the mxr4's last a little longer. There is a difference. The kenda 18 inch rears aren't even close to the size of the holeshot 18inch rears. The kendas were almost the exact same size as the stock 450R rear tires. They last longer and hook up really well. The kendas are for those of us who pay for our own tires!!!!

I'm runnin the 19x6 fronts from ITP on mine with Klaws 18" on the back. Really like this setup I haven't seen much of a difference between the 19's and 20's i've ran Razr mx fronts and holeshot fronts in the 20" I like my 19's for some reason I saw Jones and a couple other riders runnin them so i picked a set to try out and haven't had any probs with them.

19s are Ok for hardpack but dont turn well in loam. 20s are the better all around tire.
