WTF is going on?

I changed my oil after its break-in period and everything was fine..

I didnt ride it for atleast a month due to me going thru police academy, then i come back to ride and there is no oil in the resevoir at all??

I added new oil and went out for a ride.

Once again the bike sat for 2 weeks or so and i went out again today and there is jack **** in there again??????

Is this common or what do you think is going on?

The bike is a brand new 2004, not even with 6 hours on it yet... :(

Can someone help?

Do you know where the oil is going?? Is there a puddle of oil or anything under the bike at all?

Nope, i checked out the whole bike and couldn't find a damn thing.

No puddles, No Seal Leaks, Nothing.

Possibility of it burning out the exhaust?

2004 Bone Stock.

not on a brand new quad.... maybe someones ****in' with it. keep it locked up good and see if it still happens. also put some cardboard or something under just in case it is leaking out and you can't see it

Yep, brand new 2004 400ex :(

I was enrolled in the police academy for 6 months and my time has been limited but now with me wanting to go riding all the time, this problem occurs.

It's locked up safe, ill have to try the cardboard thing tho.

Odd..

what kind of oil are you using? do you let it warm up before you check it? have you drained the oil out of the engine & tank to see if its actually gone or just not reading or something>? if oil is dissappearing then you will see smoke & it wont happen on a 2004

I used the Mobil Red Cap someone suggested a while back to me.

I didnt start it up this time because i figured it would slowly eat away the engine.

So this was a "cold check". Think that has anything to do with it?

The only time oil left and entered the engine was after the first oil change which was months ago...

There is also no noticeable smoke.

Im just wondering if i should start it up since im not seeing anything in the resevior and let it warm up then check it again and then there will be some in there?

Thanks for the help so far! :)

"Cold checks" are really misleading on the oil level with the 400EX. Reason being that if you check the machine when it's not running, there will hardly be any oil on the dipstick in the oil tank. It will seem like there is absolutely nothing in there, but if you let the engine idle for a few minutes, the oil pump will raise the oil level in the oil tank. Even if you had a small amount of oil in the engine, I'm sure it wouldn't harm the motor to idle for a few minutes. Hopefully this should be your answer. :)

dude you gotta run it first, when it sits all the oil in the reservior drains into the motor, its prolly overfilled now.

mobile 1 is what I ran in my old 400ex & what I run now in my 450r so thats not the problem..the problem is you now need to warm the engine up for like 5 minutes...then let it sit for like 4-5 minutes...then check it without screwing it in...if you get an innacuarte reading go ahead & drain all of the oil & change your oil filter & add 1.90 qts of mobile 1 again with your new oil filter...no more worries there and you have new stuff in your engine ;)
