Will riding without silencer damage my motor?

I was just wondering because I sent my E-series back to WB for repair. I was putting around the yard today without the silencer(just the head pipe) for about 10 minutes and shut it off. The motor never got hot so, I don't think it was running lean. I just want to know if there are any adverse effects from riding without exhaust besides pissing off the neighbors.... Thanks,

I'm pretty sure you don't want to do that...it had to be running lean or you were jetted way rich in the first place. A buddy of mine owns a cycle shop and he told be I could burn a valve by running a motor without the exhaust on it....

Don't EVER do it agian you increase your chances of valve failure by like 50% and if your valves fail you might as well chuck the 400 engine out the window, unless your rich you might be able to fix it...
Even running with out s/a on pipes that weren't made to run with out the s/a you increase your chances, but not as much as no exhaust.

Damn, so do you guys think I did any damage? I didn't have it running very long and i didn't rev the motor very much. If I did mess up the valves I could still do a rebuild right? I knew I shouldn't have done it... **** **** **** ****!!!:grr

dude its cool jus to start it up like that sometimes BUT DONT TAKE RIDIN ANYWERE LIKE THAT OR EVEN REV IT ANY you can risk alot of **** like that ask my cuz.....lol he did that there went his valve(hehe) wasnt very funny tho and he wasnt really revin it that much and puttin around the yard ....**** i didnt think it was gonna do all that to it but damn it sure did so BE CAREFUL !:grr

what about without a s/a. i run mine w/o one, but the instruction manual says it is an option. will it hurt it with a FMF megamax II silencer and header.

i think thats all he had to do im not too sure to tell ya the truth but i think thats what he had to do he it didnt cost him much bcuz his dad(my uncle) he owns a shop thats how i got my 2001 400EX and my 1987 250X but i think thats all he had to do im not real sure....:rolleyes:

Thanks for replying. I just wanted to make sure the motor was rebuildable after a valve failure.
