Ive been seeing some stuff about the 99 400ex have problems with thier carb. Is this true?

i never heard such a thing...and my carb worked pefectly fine until i switched over to the FCR...so i dont think thats tru

Maybe you've heard of the problem with the intake boot (part that bolts to engine). This is a true problem because in the earlier EX's, the rubber boot would crack causing an air leak, and a lean condition for the motor. I didn't even know about mine until my motor builder found it and replaced it with the newer style. It happened to my 2000, and it happened to my friend's 99, so I would say it is a fairly common problem that needs addressing.

in 01, the float pin was changed. some people with the older bikes had problems with the bike sputtering or leaking a lot of gas going up steep hill or riding wheelies. its really no big deal and can be swapped with the newer part without a problem

On my old 2000 carb the throttle would only push about 1/4 the way, and than it would feel like that was all it had, until you pushed really hard it would pop and than you would have the rest of your throttle. I have read this was a common problem for the '99 and '00 400's. I believe it was fixed from '01 and on.
