thanks for the replies.. ive tried the zip ties and when it comes down to it.. the heat from the exhuast still makes the rubber covering on the cable sticky and makes it tough to pull the lever.. any other ways ?

You can always get another clutch cable that is longer and still hooks up the same and just run it down the frame rails completely away from the exhaust..

Get ahold of summit or Jeg's and get a sleeve. They make coverings for wires such as spark plug wires and the like that are close to the headers on hot rods. Thats what Im using and its the best option really. You simply take the cable out of the lever and slide the sleeve piece over the cable in place by the header and youre all set...

I'm going to go the same route as TC426EX... Currently, i have a piece of split fuel/emission hose on my clutch cable, and it rests against one of the header pipes...got deformed a bit then finally stopped and has been fine since. Probably got vulcanized a bit more LOL... :)

TC426... howd you buy the heat protectors or how did you find them.. i cant find them at jegs and i really dont know what to search for..

also a little off topic but where did you buy your EX-pull clutch from?

You could get some silver header wrap and put a few turns around the cable as it sits between the header pipes.

cheap too.

I bought some at a Speed Shop. Look at Jegs.com also.

lots of good advice here and the funny thing is i just dealt with this on saturday!

i am running the stock clutch cable with a LRD full exhaust and there is NO WAY to avoid it touching the header.. so because i was super low on money i decided to use a method that has worked for me on numberous quads and dirtbikes... ALUMINUM FOIL! and a lot of it..

i went to the store and bought the thickest heavyduty foil i could fine and wrapped almost the entire cable many many times in it and i can say that it works quite well for only costing me 2 dollars..

hope this helps people out who are short on cash..

for the lrd just route the cable up the right side of the stem, and make it so the end of the cable (that gets tightened onto the case bracket, sticks up) a little heat tape doesnt hurt either

Good deal on the aluminum foil. That's using your head. I bet it works pretty good actually.

I bought a 350x clutch cable. Its long enough to run along the frame rail that the oil tank bolts to and up under the head pipe
It clears with plenty of room and only costs $8 if you look in the right place.;)
