starter probs

they starter on my 01 400 just clicks and makes a buzzing noise. I have been chargeing it for about and hour. The solenoid just clicks and the starter hums. Could the batt be bad. It wont charge its ony showing 5.75 on the multi-meter. I thought it should atleast turn over if I try to crank it with the charger attached.

are you lights burning? bright? mine did this and it was the solenoid. but you should be reading more on your multimeter, when mine is dead i jump start it with a fresh battery, try this, if it still clicks then it is probably your solenoid, usually if you try to start it a few times it will fire up if your batt is up

i bypassed the solenoid by putting voltage directly to the starter and it still just hummed.

its more than likely your battery. ive had the same thing happen on a few different quads and i just put a new battery in and it solved the problem. you battery probably has a dead cell in it and it wont take a charge, if the battery is the one that came with it its about do for replacement anyway.
