Black plastic shock removal

i was wondering if or how you remove the black plastic thing that is around the shaft of the shock... i think that it looks pretty gaudy, so i was wanting to remove it until i get the rebuild kit for it... if you have a method, please post a how to... thanks

You don't want to remove that! Yeah, you may not like how it looks but it is there for a reason. It is a seal that keeps all the mud and water off of the shaft and keeps them from coming into contact with your seals. But, if you must remove it simply compress the spring and pul out the two spring retaining halves on the bottom. After that you should be able to just slide it off.
