Straighten the bars, check the fluids, put air in the tires. there isn't much not 800 worth. The main thing that Honda starts charging the interest on the machines as soon as they are put on the truck. It is just to get another buck out of you.

You cant do it yourself. Thats not an option. To get a brand new one from a dealer you will have to pay that fee or go to anohter dealer.

He's right most dealers wont give it to you out of the crate,, if they do they usually say it is for racing only and void your warrenty,,,, I'd look for another dealer 800 is way to much, more than I've ever seen anyway

Not that it is a big deal but I know that they come dry from honda. It must be nice to make that much $ just to add fluids.

Umm, well to tell you the truth, I am a Honda employee who does the final prep on the machines and at my shop $200 is all it is, not $800. It may be so high b/c look at his OTD. Plus, they're wet besides gas, so no they are not dry. Thanks anyways. . .

Man I thought race fuel was expensive but $200 for 3 gal. I no that I paid some kind of prep charge and they said it was dry so my bad. I might need to become a honda petroleum tech so I can make $200 bucks just to put in 1/2 a gal, because that is all the fuel I got.

well here is the low down i was a salesman at a delaership we charged 50 setup. on a quad its not that much that needs done on assembly gas oil and air pressure, they auctually adjuated brakes etc at our delaership and whe u break it down for using the forklift etc and the time for the guy doing the getting off the truck bringing in the shop and the detail guy cleaning it 50 isnt bad but 800 is a scam, and on your warranty honda makes a certified mechanic for atv's assembly them if you are certified or know someone you can buy in the crate, but on your warranty than can not make you let them service it, just keep the reciept for the oil filter spark plug etc to show you done it and you have nothing to worry about! some more advice offer the salesman $100 under the table and the price will get alot better!

i purchased my ds650 off ebay brand new... (put it on the CC so i didnt get screwed) actually worked out really well... i paid 1800 less than the OTD prices on 3 different local dealerships (biggest part was tax...as it was out of state so no tax)

the bomb's come with the rear axles on the pallet, so all i had to do was put tires on, and put some fuel in it.

the hardest part was breaking that damn crate down! (a bobcat made pretty quick work of it though)

It is illegal and a HUGE liability for them to sell it to you in the crate. At least it is in WA. I've seen what they are doing before and it is just a ploy to get you into the store and to buy from them. They tell you the unit is $5500 wich is WAY under MSRP. Then you sit down at the table and they pile up all these big charges. Now that you have already decided to buy the unit and have half the paper work done you are much less likely to back out of the deal. So it isn't like they are chargeing $800 for the set up alone. They just discount the price a bunch to make it look like a good deal. Then add all that discount back in so they actually make all their money on it. That is why you always need to ask for the OTD. price on the units. Shop around and if the OTD price is still cheaper than the other shops buy it but don't get all bent because of the $800 setup fee. If it is more than the OTD price at the other dealers go there.

When I bought mine there wasn't many places at all discounting them and I worked at I-90 Motorsports in Issaquah, WA and they wouldn't even give me a brake on it at all. All they would do is not charge me for freight and set up wich I would have ended up doing myself anyway and probably would have had to do it on my own time anyway. So I bought it at RMC in Renton, WA instead. I didn't even work there and they said they would give me the same deal. Once the owner of I-90 found out he tried to get me to buy it from them but the paperwork was already done and signed. Just another case of too little too late from the worst shop in WA.
