got my first 250 r!!

well, i just got it from my friend. its really ruff, but he just wants a sub for it (an audiobahn 12 flame Q) it has the origional tires and everything is origional, that is there lol. everything is rusted, but it has a perfect frame (no gussets or welds) and the motor probably needs some work. it also has no plastic or gas tank, but with r parts selling for so cheap now, i think it should be a fairly economical project, but im very excited:D :D

o, and how can i tell if it is an 86 or 87? it has a square frame, but i dont know how to tell the diff. in the years

Stock tires even? If it still has the original tires that motor is probably in good shape, I would expect with original tires it wasn't ridden much.

not bad, I got some 250r trx parts if you need some. Awesome find, 250r for speakers. Heres a pic of my 250r, I just ordered a aluminuim airbox for it and I'm gonna put on hyper intergated hub beadlocks

it has a blue square frame, silver/aluminum wheels, blue shock springs, dual piston calipers, and a blue steel swingarm. im gonna try to get some pics tomorrow. the guy still hasnt brought me the motor, but then again, he hasnt got his sub from me either lol. i will definately be in the market for alot of parts, especially after christmas. i think im going to do a almost full resto, with the only aftermarket external parts being a pipe, ohtsu 400ex front tires and new rears, and maybe little things like a grab bar. i already have a wiseco piston, but am sure it will need things like reeds for the motor and i am also going to need a seat assymbly, gas tank and fenders, but right now, that is the least of my worries:D :D ill definatley keep yall posted because, well i am VERY excited and most of the stuff i know about r's, ive learned on here. thanks for the help guys.

Man, I would do anything to get a 250R for cheap like that...it's my dream to fully restore one of those. Oh well, I'm working on setting my Banshee up for radar runs on the lake...should be interesting:cool: .

thanks for the pics guys, keep them coming, particularly restored or nearly stock r's. toadz, it has also been my dream since i first began riding sport atvs to have an r. i had a 230 quadrunner and wanted to buy an r with the money, but my parents insisted on a newer 400ex. then in january of 2003 i was looking for another quad, and my parents again insisted on getting the new predator. well, looks like my dream quad made itself to me, and though its as old as me, they are still incredible quads. guess im going to start tearing the rest of the frame down and sandblast and pc the frame. also, could someone write a list of the color combinations honda made them from the factory with? thanks

thata a 86-87 R you can tell by the front motor mounts and split swingarm......

make sure you get the motor mount that goes in between the swing arm ends.

I think by lookin at your bike that the swinger bolt is seized in there....you may be lucky though

i really dont think it is going to be that expensive. i think i am going to buy a new swinger bolt, and stainless bolts for the whole bike, and i know it needs all new bearings/bushings obviously. i hopefully will get the motor tomorrow:ermm: thanks for the help guys

well, i got the motor today,...whats left of it lol. the entire bottom end is brand new except for the side cases, and its been sitting out side so long half of it is useless. it really pisses me off that someone could spend that much money on good parts and leave them in the weather. but regardless, i will move on lol. i appears to have a +3 or +4 stroker motor and also ported/polished. the actual case is new, and i think some aluminum acid should eat the corrosion off the side plates. also has new clutch, clutch basket, pressure plate, and new chain so i know i still ended up on the good side:D ill keep yall posted and let you know how things go
