I've heard of them, I was told its some sort of chain guide. It has spring loaded rollers on the top and bottom sides of the chain. The springs push the rollers on the spring keeping the chain tight. This way if the chain comes off it is supposed to keep it from eating a case. I have never seen nor do I know if they work, this is just what I was told.
