alright, we'll i've been thinking of parting out my 330ex and with the money buying a stock 400ex (around a 01 or so), and then using my mx wheels and tires off of my 330 on it, and puttin my bars on it. now how would i like this machine coming off of a 330? the 330 had works suspension and +2 arms and +4 axle and the motor was pretty peppy, how am i gonna like a stock 400ex after riding this? im hoping to have some extra money after partin the 330 out and i'll spend that on suspension, but how will i like the 400, or should i got for a z or just go all out with a yfz450 or 450r? im trying to keep cost down as much as possible

Coming off of a built 330 I would say that you won't be very impressed with the stock 400 engine.I know for a fact that a built up 300ex will run with if not beat a stock 400ex all day long.As far as the suspension and handling the 400ex with it's pro link type linkage is far more comfortable and forgiving than the no link 300ex.Personally if you could manage I would get a new "race" quad whatever flavor you decide.I wouldn't give anymore than $2800 for an "01 but with the extra savings you could seriously pimp out the 400ex.One good thing about the trusty 400 is that parts are abundant and cheap.

i GOTTA 02 400EX I LOVE IT $2200 EXCELLENT SHAPE
A stocker isnt gonna be much faster than a 330 450r would be sweet but save money and hop up a 400

idk tho guys im really wantin a 450r, and idk about a 400 anymore because of how much of a disadvantage i'd have on it compared to some other more race ready quads. what do ya'll really think?

I think you should be asking yourself this questiong "Why am i asking a bunch of guys on the internet when they have no clue how my 330ex is, and what my type of riding is" Go out and try a 400ex for yourself, you must have a friend with one. I cant see ya being disapointed with it. Go out and try one on yourself, and then you'll know what kind of choice to make :chinese:

really im sure that 330 u had ran good and you wont be amazed by a 400ex. youd have to hop a 400ex alot to run along with a 450. id say try to find a used 450r for a decent price. my .02

lol if its a properly built 330 it may be able to edge a win over the 400ex.. but no redneck big bore 330 is gonna beat a stock 400ex;)

like a big bore 440 vs 416
if the 440 is tricked it will dominate a tricked out 416
if the 416 is decently built it will beat a regalur 440

get the point you cant just slap a larger pistonn in a machine and think you are going to gain a crap load of power unless you bump up compressoin let me air in and out.. a lot of factors ..

example
250x bored .020in over (aftermarket carb:rolleyes: i cant think of the name:o ) 10:1 je piston, extended 4 inches (hill climbing bike:cool: ) dont quote me but i think he had a fmf megamax

and i tore him a new a-hole when i raced him in the field??? with my stock 300ex:D :huh :eek2:

but

then he ruined my day and made me race him on blacktop and sorta beat me, just a little, maybe a bike, maybe two bike lengths
:(

I'm a red neck and I have built a couple of 330's and I guarentee a win over a stock 400 all day long!!!Have any of you ever rode a 330?I have had 2 of them and it was a very hard decision back in '99 to buy a 400.I remember the first time I rode one I was very dissapointed in the power. The selling point was the better riding platform(width/length/suspension).

I have to agree with bill...I have built a few mx 300ex's......you install the 330 kit and a new cam with a good header pipe and you have just built a machine that has a big bore and a small stroke that will out rev a stock 400ex no problem.

I have both machines setting in my garage...and I ain't no redneck..I'm a kentucky hillbilly...

yeah i would have to agree with Bill on this one. i have seen at least 3 330ex's and they all could easily beat stock 400's. i would say keep the 300 unless you are upgrading to a 450r.
