300ex starter

the starter on my 300ex isnt catching. It will sometimes catch and turn the motor but alot of the times u can just hear it spin and not do anything. Any ideas? thanks.

hmmm....

my car sometimes does that, but i know that it's the bendex (sp?) spring inside the starter that sometimes doesnt push the pinion gear out all the way, making it just free spin.

i just replaced the starter on a '99 warrior we have and i looked inside and it didn't even have a spring (that i could see) so i just assumed it rode along on the flywheel when the motor was running.... so based on that i would tell you i have no clue, but maybe the 300ex's starter has a bendex spring?

if i were you i would pull it out and take it apart and see if you see anything weird.

the 300 and warrior have a sprag clutch (one way clutch) on the end of the flywheel so the starter doesn't turn when the engine is running. that may be your problem. the early raptors had a problem with them.
