studding tires

has anyone ever used sheet metal screws as ice studs? i heard you can do this if you clip the screw down a little ways? Or is it not smart to try this

you can do it, if you dont want to use the tires for anything else just screw em all the way in through the carcas. they work almost as good as cold cutters.
