Anyone have a idea between the top speed difference when switching from the stock 14T to a 13T sprocket? The 450r is completely stock except for this change. Just wondering. I didnt think it could be drastic, i guessed 5mph or so, but my buddy thinks diff and won't pace his. thanks!

so if you drop to 18's in the rear, what gearing is most benefecial for racing MX?

from what ive been told, the R was designed with 18's in mind. i havent tried mine with the 14 tooth yet with 18's but hera it works fine. i prefer the 13 tooth in the woods and running the Rekluse Z start clutch

i am running 18's and a 13t front sprocket and i like it just fine for mx. it pulls hard off the line and out of corners. i can usualy just stay in third gear the entire race and i start in second. but soon i will be putting in a 13:1 piston and 04 crf cam, so i may go back to the 14t but will try it with 13t first to see the difference. but for now i love the 13t on here for mx with the 18's.

it felt like it made quite a bit, but its still higher geard then a 400ex and i like the 13t front especailly for the woods.

i am runnin 18's and switched to the 13 tooth front sprocket and think its better, seems to work better for mx and my riding style.

all you guys switch to 18's and a 13? wouldnt that make it even slower and rev out way to quick? the rule of thumb is that if you go down to 18's from 20's, then drop 2 teeth in the rear. i dont like messing with the front, the 450R was made to run a 14 tooth in the front.

 6,

Gabe has a pretty neat gearing calculator for the 450R based on the internal gear ratio (hidden in code), external gearing and tire size. Give it a try,...

for me the quicker revs made it better, and it seems easier to know what gear to be in(each gear dont seem so steep now)
u said that u dont like to mess with the front but if u change the rear 2 teeth thats the same as changing the front 1 tooth.
13 tooth front is just a personal preferance though, i dont know if i would run it if all i ran were wide open tracks.

1 tooth down in front countershaft sprocket is equal to 3 teeth up in the rear. If ya don't beleive me, give it a try,...

be sure to use same tire size when you compare top speed between front sprocket change to rear sprocket change.

with 18" tires a 13 tooth front is only good for the smaller more compact tracks like supercross....however, on out door tracks i would deff. run 14 tooth with 18"s hands down... on the bigger tracks and when you using the 13 tooth front u will find that 3rd gear and up people start pulling on you but that doesnt happen with the 14....just from my expiriences

my 450R with the 13 tooth front sprocket "its all in the sig" i ran the 1/8th mile 8.85 ET @ 72.81 MPH

im sure with the 14 it would do 78

the 13 feels like you lose quite a bit of top end but its not too bad

i use a 15 up front. am i nuts? why are all you guys running 13's? i figure, keep it in one power gear (usually 3rd) and rip, slip the clutch if needed. i do all the big jumps in 4th and straights in 5th. it'd be in 5th goign over little doubles

what size tire were you running when you did this? reason i ask is because i had a 14t and 20" tires and i was hittin the rev limiter crossin the line....i would think that the 13 would not pull through the whole track without hittin the rev limiter??? FYI i was runnin a 8.90 with the same exhaust and everything....only thing different is the jetting...im runnin a 178

i have the original 20 inchers. i was hitting the rev limiter just a little before the finish line, i am going to give it a run with the 14 tooth sprocket when summer comes around "which will be a while" and ill see if i can run faster times
