They make GN4 in 10w40 or 20w50 as well... It is not good to switch from synthetic to non synthetic from what I hear as well... In any event, Honda does make a synthetic 10w40 too but I think that oil is the HP series instead of the GN4 and it comes in a gold bottle...

I use Castrol GTX 20W-50 and Love it, Sometimes in the cold weather it is hard to start, but coast it or jump it one time to warm up and your good for all day.

Stick with the Synthetic and if you need a better cold weather oil find a 10W50 instead of a 15w50!!! The benefits are huge!!! Be carefull of the friction modifiers also!!! GN4 looks good if you use the 20w50!! Full synthetic would be my choice if you have a lot of mods!!

From Belray's Website (An Example!!)

10W-50 versus 20W-50

Q: Sir Tech,
I own an H-DÆ FLHT Electra Glide and I have been using your EXP 20W-50 with good results. I would like to try your fully synthetic Bel-Ray EXS but you don’t make it in a 20W-50, which is what is recommended for my bike. Why don’t you make an EXS 20W-50?

A: Our Bel-Ray EXS Synthetic Superbike Motor Oil comes in 3 grades: 0W-40, 10W-50 and 5W-60 and I recommend 10W-50 for H-DÆ motorcycles. The first # (10W) means WINTER which means the cold start-up rating of the oil. So when you first start your bike, the 10W oil will flow more easily and quickly throughout your engine offering you better protection than would a 20W. Once the engine is up to operating temperature you have an SAE 50 oil whether it’s 10W-50 or 20W-50 or some other combo of 50. The point is, there is no disadvantage, only the benefit of better cold start-up protection.
Semi-synthetic oils have been created for ...Price Point! They give you some of the benefits of full synthetics at a lower price. There is no advantage to run semi-synthetic oil unless you’re on a budget. I recommend you use EXS and you will see even more benefits than what you have already noticed using semi-synthetics. EXS can handle extreme heat and will dissipate heat better; its flash point is over 460 degrees F. whereas, semi-synthetics are 100 degrees F, or more down the scale.

With just a pipe any mineral oil will do!! any head work, stroke work exc...... You need a better Mineral oil or even better SYNTHETIC!!! Period!!! If you put $3-$4k in a motor you're nuts to run that cheap **** oil!! Any engine builder will tell you"50 weight minimum on a modded 400ex Motor also" Call one, they'll tell you!! Not to get stupid about the whole oil thing but this is an area I've studdied and used just about everything!! I've seen worked Sparks & TC 400ex motors grenade because of "Cheap **** oil"!!!!! I know I wouldn't chance it for $3.00 a Quart more for the better stuff!!! Just my opinion, although shared by many!!!:macho

I'm positive if you called GT Thunder they would say the same thing!!! 40 weight is not a high enough viscosity for a full blown race ex motor!!!! The golden rule is 40 weight for a liquid cooled Race motor and 50 weight for an air cooled Race motor!!! This is straight from two of the best motor builders in the buisines!!!!!
