View Full Version : sick 400ex i need help do not know what am doing wrong

all right i live in st.louis mo sea leavl is 800 feet i have a e serries slip on and a k&n power lid i tryed a 160 mane jet it ran ok not the best the mixture screw was pull 3.5 turns and the needle jet is on number 3 the instructions say 170 mane jet but it will not start know i tryed a 155 int nothing no star so i put the 160 in no start what is any thing you guys can think of to check or try thanks

If starting is your problem then I wouldn't bother playing with the main jet just yet. Try one size up on the pilot jet. Make sure your problem doesn't lie elsewhere first though. Just seems strange it wouldn't start at all, maybe clogged pilot jet, bad plug, fuels off or kill switch off. I know it sounds stupid, but it happens.

yeah if everything else checks out then you need to clean your pilot circuit in the carb and maybe go up one on the pilot jet.

When you say that it ran "ok" what throttle position did it run like that? Your MJ has nothing to do with your pilot, and from the sounds of it that is your problem. Go to your dealer and get a 42 pilot, if you want remove your choke(very common mod) and go about 2-2 1/2 turns out on the air mixture screw. See how that turns out.

also be sure you didnt flood it, if its flooded, hold it wide open and start it, second it starts let off the throttle
