Well, I tried it. I started with a simple peice, the throttle cover. It was powder coated black, (I assume it was powder coating), and it was a pain in the ***** to get off. I finally ended up using a bench grinder with a soft copper wire wheel and it worked great. I skipped all of the sandpaper because there wasnt anything that needed shaping, and I went right to the polishing wheel. It isnt too bad for the first time but I am hoping to get better. What do you think?

Here is the heavy ends that are on the ends of each hand grip. They looked terrible so I polished one of them to see what it would look like. I also included the one that hasnt been done yet so you could see the difference.

you just wish that was ur chick! haha
you need a finer wheel and some finer ruge and your polishing will turn out more mirrored. it takes patience!!!!!! for the striping part get some aircraft striper and itll take about 5 min of sitting and looking at it to strip it

Looks Good! Honestly, after you ride it a few times, especially in the woods, the mirror finish is gone. Be happy with what you have done.. but if you really want the parts to shine, you may have to sand some of them to get all the casting pits out and level the surface.

Thanks for the tips guys, that is just what I need. I see what you mean by the casting pits, I guess if I were to use some real fine sandpaper, It would come out even better. It's good enough for something that will need done again in a few weeks. Maybe after a year of taking it off and rebuffing it, I wont need to sand it.:D

no matter how hard you try, alot of the aluminum parts on these quads wont be perfect. its not your hard work or lack of, its the type of metal used and the casting the manufactures use.
looks good, be prepared to re buff it after a wash:p

Whoa! :eek2: :eek2: Bling Bling.
Is that writing or airbrush on that motor mount, or is that a reflection? Whatever it is, it looks awsome.

By the way Pappy,
After seeing that picture of you on you're quad, it makes me wonder just how old you are. Judging from you're moniker I picture you as being 50-60, but you dont look any older than me, I am 33, can you beat that?;)

The motor mount that pappy showed was one of the roughest cast parts but comes out the best. Mine has also held its shine too. The thumb throttle cover is one of the worst cast parts that pappy was talking about too. When you sand and polish, you only find more casting flaws. I polished the one on the 300 and didn't on the 400 because I knew it wasn't worth it. I polished a ton of parts including my side cases..... you can't even tell it anymore. :( ... wipes tear... :)

After you polish something, would it keep its shine if you spray clear coat on it???

Hmm, I think that may be true. I took off my motor mounts and spray painted them with high temp. paint (silver) and sprayed clear coat on it and it looked good right after I got done then when you look at it now it sure does look yellow/brown looking.
As for a tip, DONT clear coat your polished parts!
