I'm buying a snowmobile for this winter and am looking at a zr580 and a zr580efi. Is there a big enough difference in performance or reliability to spend the extra money on the efi? and what is the difference? haha I know its a quad forum but I couldn't find the information anywhere

One is carbuerated(sp) and the other has fuel injection. im not sure if there like quads but if you say put an exhaust on them and it has a carb, then you have to rejet, but with fuel injection it has a computer and notices it needs more fuel and automatically gives it more fuel!

I dont know much about snowmachines, but figured i would throw that at you! also efi's will provide perfect fuel flow at any angle, when carbs can "flood out" or whatever at certain angles, that isnt really a problem on a quad though, more on a car or truck or My jeep lol

My unlce has a zr580 it is an awesome sled, he then bought a 700 and sold it right away b/c he actually liked the 580 better!

As for the fuel injection, its preference. My dad swears by EFI and I agree. But if you are gunna be doing any riding thats gunna require lots of perforumance go with the carbed one so you can change jets and stuff.

I'd go with carburated ....... I hate messing around with EFI , there's always something that seems to screw up some way or another.

But I guess if you're gunna be doing a lot of different altitude riding in a single day , EFI would be the way to go .

Aww too bad . The guy was willing to trade for a 4x4 quad , but he just bought one , so now I don't know what he's willing to trade for .

For $2100 I wanna buy it , but it won't see any use this season .... so why waste garage space !!!

i got an ext 580. its basically the same thing. i have the carb version, which is dual carbs and i love it. runs great aslong as you take care of em. id rather have carb then efi on the older sleds as there were some issues with the earlier versions of efi. and dont get an efi that requires a battery....if the battery isnt charged enough youll never get it started.:(

The 580 efi was one of the last years before it got a makeover and became a 600. It's better then the early 600's and cat had everything dialed in with that model. It is better then the carbed, if you can find a nice one, snatch it up.

Greg, ZR700's are SLOW, but reliable. If it's mint, then it might be worth it, otherwise I'd look for something else.
