Cut a hole in your air box and use this plate to allow air flow and still have the ability to replace the cover if you are riding in water, etc...

It's a marine "deckplate" that boaters use as inspection ports to see down into their hull. It's a two piece apparatus that comes with about six holes underneath for screws and threads for the lid. They are available from 3"- 8" diameter

The lid screws on and seals with an o-ring. You could even put a fine mesh or panty hose to screw underneath it that will keep out large chunks of crud.

I did it to my Toyota Truck's air box and it works great! It only cost me $5.00 for the plate and I used stainless screws with a smalll bead of silicone to seal it to the box. You can get these at your local Marine supply store.

Just a suggestion!

id say just cut out a nice huge hole, the idea of using that part normaly used on boats is a great idea to, Marine hardware is usually very strong and wellmade.
personaly i cut out about 75% of my airlid and put over a layre of paint strainer. shoegouped it and it sounds awesome now, throttle response is snappy, you can tell it leaned it out but letting it breath is everything.

Dude!! Don't cut any holes in your lid. Just take it off and run with out it. Buy an outerwears or something. Then if you're going to be riding in water put your lid back on. Now you don't have to worry about holes in the top for water or mud to get into.
