ok, cody read the thread about the hybrid quad and said he wanted a new dirtbike instead:(

sooooo......

i reckon he is about ready for a cr80 or kx80 etc. he isnt real good on a bike (has a jr80) but loves to ride. the problem is, the kx65 is a bit short for him. power is ok but how high can the ride height be raised? also, can the cr 80 and kx 80 be lowered. being short isnt his fault...its his moms:devil:

get him a cr 85 and loosen up the preload ring and drop the forks some until he grows into it, you might have to do some shock work if he plans on mxing it, there was a article in dirtbike years back about lowering a bike for shorter riders, im suprised he didnt want you to build him a cr 85 hybrid:p

My brother has a 2000 kx80 with race tech suspension. It sits alot lower than our stock cr80. Probably because of the suspension. He also shaved the seat on his kx, so he could touch the ground.

Big bore a DR-Z/KL-X 110 to 135 (Think theyres a kit for it.) and get a pipe and a magura hydraulic clutch. My friends got one and I rode it and im 6" 4' in fit on it. Anyways though its perty dang fast for its size plus it a fourstroke.

get either a yz or cr 85.....adjust the suspension to lower it.....he will be able to ride it for quite a few years:D

i used to have a yz60 and when i first got it, it was to tall for me and my dad just adjusted the shock all the way down, then as i got talled he raised it..... I'm not sure how far the 80's will go down

im 14, 5.6 or so and i fit on a cr80 bigwheel, so he would deff grow into it, and they make enough power that he wont need to mod it constantly, id recomend doing pipe, vforce reedvalve, air filter, it really wakes them up once he gets use to it :macho

tommy would be a great person to talk to, he helped me alot with mine so far :D

i would stick with honda, imo and from others they say they have the best 80/85 out there, pushing close to 20 horse stock :)

get him a crf 50 and work it out, then you can steal it and ride it when hes not around

i would get him a yz 85 just loosen the suspension all the way i have one and the only thing is about jumping to an 85 from a jr 80 he is going to have to learn the clutch and learn well because the 85 doesn't really have a lot of low end power and the power when he is just starting to ride it comes up really rough until he gets used to it just make sure you are there watching him because i came from a ttr 125 and the switch was very tough coming from a slow bike but i am sure that he will love it! good luck with the decision!

um im pretty sure he knows how to drive a clutch so that wouldnt be a problem.

Devol and other company's will lower them. Are you sure he's ready for an 80 or 85 yet? An xr100 sounds like it would fit him perfect. And will last forever. Resale is really good on them too when hes ready to go faster.

Out of the 85's get an RM. It has the smoothest power, and isn't as peaky.

Cobra's comming out with there 65 pretty quick also. Dillon just got a 50. I rode it and the thing rips. The 65 prototype was being raced at the local track here. He was getting 4'th place starts in the super mini's, wich included kx100's. The seat height was (on the prototype) a bit taller then a kx65 too.

That sux, another quad rider going to bikes! :( Almost all my friends have completely switched..... its cleaner, its smoother.... blah, blah, blah. Oh well, I'm looking for a DRZ400 myself. :eek2: Not to switch, but to have a 4th ride so we can start some family rides and stuff. I bet Cody will whip up on the bikes in some of his first races. I guarantee you he's stronger than the average bike rider his age!

i think cody gets dejected when he goes to the local track and all his friends are on bikes. he rides the heck outta his quad and does ok on his bike. the jr was great for him to learn on and i do believe he is ready for more. he rode my neighbors kx65 and did fine...infact im leaning more towards it.

Hey pappy, My son has a ktm 65sx that has plenty of power and I have never had any problems with it, we race with a couple of kx 65 and they always seem to have problems with the bike I dont know if it is lack of maintance or the design of the bike. But anyway I am looking to sell the bike and upgrade him to a yz80, I will make you a good deal on the bike if you are intersted.

i was somewhere around 10 or 11 when i got my cr80... the seat was at my chest... i learned really fast how to start out and stuff by just sliding off the bike a lil b4 i stopped... wasn't bad at all... the bike lasted me 5 years easy with no problems...

80s are alot to handle at 1st but within a month or 2 u already need to start modding them out...

i'd be ready to start saving for a cr85 lil wheel bc it won't take that long until he is gonna need one...

remmeber u can only race a 65 till ur 11...
