Tires, gearing ect...

Hey I have a 400EX with stock tires and sprockets. I want to go to 18 inch Turf Tamers. If i did what would happen if I didnt change the gearing? Also should I put a 36tooth sprocket on the rear? Also for the front tires should i get 19's or 20's?

why do u want turf tamers especially 18 inchers just go with 20 inch anything else. my turftamers got ripped uo on every thing on the road.but if u insist on the turf tamers then get about a 14-16 tooth sprocket and dont mess with the back one (its too hard to take off) a 20 tooth front sproket is out of the question, i really would not wouldent reccomend the turf tamers though because they are too soft, also i raced a quad with 18 inch tires and they did his little blaster no justice he was so buisy shifting l got him by about 5 quadlengths in a short drag.

Im going to get 20 inch rear but then could i put 20's on the front or no? Should I stay with stock 22?

Also what are the turf tamers good for?

Tire size depends on what type of riding you do,,,,18 inchers are for MX only,,pretty much,,also changing tire size does not require gearing changes..

Ricos right, 18 is a MX tire, and a very good one at that. I've been asking the same question about tha tamers and I finally got a chance to see a coupple 400s with em, they worked good I thought, there were grooved though. One guy had 9.5 width tamers on his, they took corners great. I just ordered a set of tamers on some douglas beadlocks. Once I get them I'll ride on em for more then 5 minutes and post what I think.

what about 11 inch width? What is the difference in performance between the two widths? What terrain are the tamers good for? If i get 20 inch turf tamers what fronts should i get? What size 20,21, or 22?
