Do 450Rs have batteries or do the lights just run off the power the engine produces?

no it uses a capacitor to hold charge.

A capacitor is basically a "storage tank" for electrical current.

its not really a tank that holds current its a device that off sets current, helps to speed it up and keeps the voltage the same.
it uses Micro fards, and yes it could hold a charge.
