I'm thinking about building an mx track to practice on and was wondering what to include? Like what would be a good track layout?

lets see, a few taple tops,a few doubles, a triple,a section a whoops, maybe a rythm section, and some hard/sharp turns.

sounds cool, wish i could have my own practice track...

good luck with it!

my question really is how to build the whoops and rhythm section... What's a good depth for whoops and how far apart should they be? And I'm thinking like a double double double section...

If you want outdoor style whoops they should be 15'
from peak to peak. 2 to 3 ' high. Stadium style whoops
are 12' from peak to peak and have a sharper center.
More like a V instead of a U shape in between each
whoop. The best whoop for an ATV track is to build
them 12 or 13' apart and 2 1/2' tall. Quads can't skim
whoops they either double or tripple through. If they
are spaced 12' w/ a U center it works perfect for quads.

the way i built my track was with 5 whoops, 3 table top all the same lenght and a 100 foot single into a table top, and 2 doubles, 1 double is 50feet from tip to tip, the other is 30 feet tip to tip

if you want whoops that are skipable, space them out just shy of your wheelbase length. its hard for me to explain on how youd go about actually building them but ill give it a shot.

spread and grade a 2ft even layer of clay/loam soil down on a flat original ground, however long or wide you want the whoops to be. Get yourself a loader with a Blade bucket (no teeth). drive up to the end of the "planed" whoop section in the direction youd ride it. tilt the bucket all the way forward, dig down about a foot and curl and flick the dirt into a pile to create about a 1.5 foot tall whoop. Work yourself from the end of the whoop section to the beginning so you dont smoosh all the whoops with the loader by runnin over them. once you have scooped out the whoops you want in the 2ft layer of soil you can pack them down with a wheeler and shape with rake.

whoops done right with hard packing soil can save you alot of frustration later from maintence of the whoops.

there was a similar post on here a while back that gave a link to some page that was all about how they build mx tracks. i think it was how they build all the supercross stadium tracks for bikes but i can't remember what it was. maybe it was on racerx webpage??? if you search for it you'll find it, but it had a lot of good whoop & jump building tips, like how to use the equipment and what to use, etc.

Try and include an off camber turn or two... good for balance
