ok, im going to be nice....

you dont need to worrie about any engine problems with the 05. there have been some lemons but they all showed problems with less then 10hours. thats well within the warrenty, so you have nothing to be worried about.

The 2005 450r motor is exactly the same as the 2004. There is no problems with the 2005. Plus do you ectualy think a dirt bike motor is going to be more reliable than then motor it was made for.

i had a 03 crf450r it absolutely riped compared to a trx stocker. hey if u got the money do it its alot more reliable than a trx motor, though u would need do widen and put new suspension on it for the full felling of how powerful it is cause if u dont it will just slow u down.

if u have the money i would absolutely do cuz my 03 crf had a little more power than my cs trx450r and much better throttle response . go for u will have much more potential.

I have 3 buddies that run or have ran CRF quads. One of them, Johnny Hale, had a Walsh CRF built to run nationals. It blew up on him on a regular basis and was constantly putting fresh piston/rings in it. My other 2 buddies have had problems with cranks and over-heating was a major issue. The power and performance is definitely there, they are very fast! But the reliability issues are just too high. Also, you will probably need to do some extensive gussetting to the stock frame or the CRF motor is going to vibrate it to pieces since there is no counter-balancer like quad motors have. I would say its not worth it. Johnny has 2 TRXs now he races for nationals and TQRAs, he prefers them both over his Walsh TRX any day of the week.

I have had my TRX since February and raced MX on it since I got it, from stock form till now. It has been VERY reliable even under the abusive conditions i've put it through. I had to have the valves adjust once and that was because I put a hi-comp JE piston in it. Motor is all there, no worries.....

All in all....you're nuts if you decide to go with the CRF hybrid. If you got the cash to build it and keep it running, more power to you! I personally would say not to do it, buy a YFZ or TRX.

thanx for the info. so should i just go with keeping the 416 and maby boring it out a lil more to keep up with these 450's

if the crf isnt reliable, how reliable is the 450r

More reliable than a 400EX you keep boring out to try to keep up with 450's.

And about the CRF, I personally don't have any experience with them as I did with the 400EX but I did find this in the For Sale Section:

I have a Race Ready Crf with a brand new motor it broke a rod and I had to put everything new in it everything is new except one case. I have all the recipts for all of the parts and it was built by Honda. It has about 10 hours on it. Motor is an 02

If you have the $$$ to buy a 450R and build one for MX, go that way. I had 2 racing buddies who had built 400EXs, one with a 426 and another with a 440. They both ran great but not up to snuff to my 450R when it just had a full exhaust, filter, and jetting. The 440 had hi-comp piston, cam, port work, FCR carb, etc etc.....it ran really well but after I hit 2nd gear, I was gone. I checked out on them with a stock motor and now that I've got a built motor (which is still very reliable) they wouldnt stand a chance.

Now, I know it all depends on the rider but if you can run with guys on a 450R with just your 416, imagine how fast you would be with a 450R. There has been very few posts of motors locking up on the TRXs and all of them were covered by warranty just about. My motor hasnt failed me yet and still rippin' it up to this day!

If ya want an estimate on how much it costs to build a 450R, look at the mods in my signature. I totalled it up yesterday and I have almost $13,500 invested with the cost of the quad figured in. I've bought a lot of stuff that some guys wont want or dont need, so you can eliminate some of that stuff. You can have a nice 450R for MX with just exhaust, filter, jetting, nerf bars, handlebars, wheels/tires, a-arms, axle and shocks.
