I am in desperate need for a bigger Hard Drive.

I have looked around and im looking at about a 60 gig. I need more performace than space so i wanna get a top rpm and etc.

I i would like to use my old hard drive as a slave for Photoshop(Scratch Disks) but i do not have anough slots so i would have to get rid of my CD-rom (I have an external so it would be ok)

When buying a new one what do i need to know to make sure it is compatible with my system and how do i find out.

Thx,
Ralph

look on ebay for them. there are several people that buy them in bulk and sell them. i would go with at least a 80 gig. you can find them for less than a $100 on there.

If your new hard drive is faster than your original, make sure you put it on a separate controller and not the same one has your old one... you could slow the new one down a good bit.

How do people need 200gb's? How much porn does one person need?

Ive been running on a 10gb(Laugh all u want im used to it) and im fine with it. I dont have many video games or anything on my computer. I think ram and **** is alot more important rather than being able to save every episode of star trek on my computer.

Im thinking a 60 should be fine cause im not keeping the computer for much longer. And i will probably get more ram too.

What other things have to match? How do i kknw if its ide or whatever.

HD will either be SATA or IDE, and it will be clearly on the box if you buy it in a store, or in the title if you buy online. Compatibility isnt much of an issue beyond that. as for speed, if you get a 7,200 rpm drive, you really wont be able to tell the difference in any other specs.

with the photshop i think that the little thinks would make a diff. How do i know if i need an ide or sata?

I'm sure if I had a bigger hard drive I could get way more than 200gigs of porn, you can never have too much porn.
As for star trek .. I'd rather watch paint dry.

lol

I have an 80 gig, with the faster rpm, I kept the old 20 for a slave. I should have got a 200 for all of my porn though:p

Maxing out your ram does seem to help the speed. At least it helped on mine.

You just need a standard IDE drive, not a SCSI, thats all you need to know, go to circuit city or best buy, you will get a rebate for like $20 or so if you look for a good deal. You can also buy a USB adapter to slave in that old drive as external.

would it be worth it or hard to do to set up the second one as a slave for scratch disks for photoshop?

it wont be that hard, but I dont think its worth it to take out a cdrom, i would definitely just partition a little space on the new drive if you want to do it.

when it comes down to doing that ill "holla" at ya cause i dont knwo how to do that.

when youre installing windows, it will give you a screen about partitions and formatting, and you can select create a new partition, put in the size you want, and install windows and install windows on the other one.

I just copied my old hard drive onto the new one, and it asked me about partitions but i didnt do anything at the time so maybe its too late now.
