I have a 2003 honda 400ex. It has a 440 kit and a TC cam, it has long travel front and rear. Elka elite shocks , houser +3 a-arms, houser swingarm, houser steering stem. etc etc. All I do is motocross and I really like my quad but my question to everybody is that is it truly worth it to buy a new trx450r and set it up for motocross? Or should I just keep my 400ex?

Jersey......unless you know him and were being sarcastic, ur an idiot, as for the question, have you ever ridden a 450 or raced against one that is built? I say ride one and see what the possibilities are with an R. I'm pretty sure no matter what, a built R is gonna work a built 400ex, but it depends alot on the rider.

dude you took that way to serious. what ever floats your boat. i wouldnt mind havin a nice hooked up 440. if fact, i would probably be faster on the 440 hes talking about than my 450R with my stock shocks. this is a forum and you have to be sarcastic once in a while:p

Honestly, I don't know. Its a tough decesion. I would probably keep the 440 because you already have everything on it. The 440 can beat a stock 450 definently because my 416 can beat a yfz 450 on the start but 5 gears later he past me on top end.I say if you have the money to do it then do it. But if it was me id keep the 440.

I would say keep it. Then later down the road when you start winning in your respective classes then buy a 450 and keep the 440. That way if you dont like the 450 then you still have the 440 to ride until you have your 450 setup the way you want it. Just my 2cents

Exactly what thump_it said depends on the rider you could be the only one in your class with a built 400ex and everyone else is on 450's who cares try to see what you can accomplish and go from there!!

If you want more power, have you condidered putting a crf450 motor in you setup? It might be the cheapest and best option. Buy a used bike then part out what you dont need(recommended a quick rebuild then you get the carb, cdi, and it will rev up to 10200rpm? I think thats the limit, also quicker reving than the trx450), or new motor setup off service honda ( or similar).

It sounds like the suspension of the 400ex is keeping you happy, so do you really need to start all over again. If mx is you forte then my suggestion is the crf450 motor. I have a 450r, and i'm dumping a ton of money into it. To bring it up to par.

So my $.02, you never get out of a machine what you put into it. So with the crf motor you will have the chassis you are familiar with, and the power you want.
