also how do they handle? do they handle like a sport quad or do they handle like a utility?

my buddy had one and i rode it a little. they are awesome machines. handle great, plush suspension, quality parts. but just looking at them it's obvious they're heavy and huge. if you ride tight woods i wouldn't recommend one. they also don't have the low end torque you'd expect from a 650. they pull strong from the mid range up though. engine is very very mild in stock form, you can get lots more hp out of them if you desire.

they're probably the best built sport quad made. look at one of them then go look at a raptor. raptor looks like it was made by tyco in comparrison.

thats a good explaintion.

I love mine, I would not trade it for any other race quad.

as for trails, if there quad trails and not 4x4 trails there great. most. nice smooth power.

if your a desert racer, there isnt a better quad on the market, just look at the latest baja 1000 results

I like mine but it is heavy and has no reverse. That gets to be a small problem but they are a very mooth ride and jump extremely well. I have however had problems like a melted voltage regulator and a starter that was and still is screwed up. There are bad for small trails necause they are so wide.

do not buy a d 650.its way too big and heavy.its way too easy to tip over and it doesnt handle well when its in the air.i would never buy that quad i would go with a ltz 400 or a 400ex or obviously an r

My friend has a 01 and has never had a problem with it. They run great and I think the are the most comfortable quad ever. But they are huge, they can be a real pain in tight areas. I myself wouldnt get one but I'm a woods racer so it wouldnt suit me. However I dont think my friend would own anything but the ds650. Just depends on what you are wanting to do, if you want to run wide open areas you cant beat it.

hey ds racer so youre gonna tell me that it isnt heavy, and that it isnt easy to tip over ????? dude i had one for 2 years and man is it ruff,i thaught it was pretty good until i got an r. and u call me an idiot ???????????? lol. dude maybe u should get a real quad so that you can maybe see what a real quad is. I mean it does have power but i just dont think its a great trail bike. so before calling me an idiot maybe u should look in the mirror.I was just expressing my opinions eventhough it might not be the same as yours.

whatever dude u might think its a good quad but we have our different opinions

dsracer666
12-01-2004, 05:51 PM
I'm not saying its a good quad for every one! but you shoulden't trash on a quad like that unless its a raptor!

stock for stock there is NO WAY a ds is tippier then a 450r!

as for the weight I only feel it when I'm loading up or getting unstuck.

as for the 450r, yes its a great quad I raced my teammates and did very well, but I still wasen't as fast as on my ds!

see why do u say that **** on a raptor i happen to like the raptor eventhough its high and narrow but anyways dont really care cause i dont got one i have an r.i was ridding one this weekend and i was riding on thin ice and under there was about half a feet of water . the ice broke and it took me forever to get out that is why i think its a crappy quad cause im still kind of pissed about it

gagne736
12-01-2004, 05:59 PM
and by the way u shouldnt be callin people idiots because they dont have the same opinion about a quad as u do

dsracer666
12-01-2004, 06:10 PM
what would you say if I said the 450r is the slowest 450 out, tippy as he!!, the frame break easy, and it geared too high?
woulden't it piss you off a little?

its all true but it doesen't make it a bad quad, and I woulden't tell someone not to buy it for those reasons!

gagne736

common now u cant tell me that u think that the 650 is the best quad.i think that u like it because u have lots of experience with it

no I truly think it is the best quad out for me right now.

theres not one thing I don't like about it except your limited on aftermarket stuff.

I finally got to ride a ds...

I thought it was going to have more arm pulling power BUT, it was all stock .. its so fun to ride, the ride is really plush, climbs hill better than the raptor and R, i had a good time on it.. if i had the money i would buy one before i bought a r.. but then again i dot have the money :p

REALLY sweet pictures good luck next season!

dude i believe i just did..

what is so bad about the ds???

your honda 450r isn't the best thing since slice bread:rolleyes:

the ds is a great machine.. just needs to lose a few pounds..

gagne736
12-02-2004, 07:45 PM
ok my bad dude i thaught u were talking about the 250r.the ds is also pretty large so its hard to fit in tight places in the woods

bradley300
12-03-2004, 03:36 AM
the ds isnt even considered a woods mahine, what do you guys think DFS stands for? DUNE SPORT, there is a reason they win so many desert races;). if you want to compare quads compare them in there own elements. the 450r is a better gncc or gnc machine, but in a desrt race, it will be a while before a manufactuer comes out with a better quad than a ds. i'm not saying 450rs cant beat a ds in the desert, but lets looks at long term reliabiilty here. the ds is built like a tank, period. its heavy for one reason, bombardier used steel for everything, yes, its cheaper and dosent sound "cool" but unless done right, all those aluminum peices wont last a desert season. see raptor and yfz upper aluminum a-arms for a perfect example. also, power per cc, this is a huge factor is engine reliablity, the 450's are neat they make the same power as a 650, but the motors are so stressed, i would be afraid to take it on a 500 mile race. even if it is a honda, another plus for the ds. now take a look at the race quads them selves. the 450's general have aftermarket a-arms,swingarms, gas tanks, beadlocks, tires handlebars yadda yadda yada. most ds race quads have aftermarket shocks, headlights and gas tanks. so on the money side, a ds is way cheaper to race a desert race on.

sorry if this isnt about desert racing per say, but i'm trying to give you an idea of what the ds is all about so you guys will stop comparing it as something it wasnt meant to be
