it is just a protection pieces not a lever

I had a hydro clutch on my 440ex and out of the 10 grand ive spent towords my quad that was the worst 200 bux i have ever spent on it. the hose is made out of a thin plastic material and if you plan on ridding hard and heating up ur motor it will melt mine did it twice i even had the company fix it after the first time but i threw it away after it did it again

Actually, it looks like a hot start lever. I have a hydro clutch and it's awesome. Just make sure you don't route it the same way as the stock clutch. Keep it away from your exhaust, it will burn right through the line. I would look around though, you can find them for cheaper than 200. I don't know where, just gotta look.

He said the line kept melting. You can buy stainless lines for them for like 50 bucks.

If you get one and want the stainless line, buy one off eBay for the Cannondale. The whole thing goes for $45. Everything is exactly the same except the plunger end that goes on the clutch side. That way you have spare lever and parts in case you break something while out.

And the black thing is just a rubber boot to protect the lever area from dirt. The lever is adjustable by turning the red knob. That's why there is room between the two.

They put a RUBBER boot over the lever and plunger to keep dirt from collecting. That's all.

If you are asking if the lever is diffrent than a typical cable clutch lever, then answer is 'yes'. It is more, or just, like a brake lever. The lever on a cable systems pulls a cable to release the clutch. On a hydraulic system it pushes a plunger into the resivior cylinder that uses oil to bring the clutch in.

And it's not just a rubber boot to protect the lever from dirt. I don't have that on mine. I'm about 99% sure it's a hot start lever. They come on all the new 4 stroke bike (not quad) magura clutche systems. I don't know if they come with the new 450 quad clutch lever.

I loved mine. Only reason i got rid of it was to get the hinson side case.

OK, I have verified that the ONLY Magura with a hot start is for the CRF450. Last time I checked that was not a quad.

Maybe this picture makes a better example.

its a rubber boot!!

the hotstart on them does not mount on the other side of the clutch lever itself.

That's what I thought too. But it was looking suspecious to me.

I have had zero problems with both mine. And the others I have installed. It can really make a diffrence on those long rides.

I bought mine on ebay for like $185 shipped and its been a good investment so far. The nice thing is that they give you such a long plastic line that you can carefully fish the line down the frame and along side the right of the frame. Then just zip tie small rubber hose halves to the parts of the frame where the plastic will contact. It's worked flawlessly so far so I would not say that the money would go wasted.

Here are some pics of what the clutch looks like for a 400. That is a hot start lever in the first pic. You can even see where to hook the hot start cable up. And the bikes that come with a hot start lever are the crf 450r 02-04, wr400 98-00, yz250f 02-04, yz400 98-99, and yz426f, 00-02. This info comes straight out of my rocky mountain atv catalog.

That is the point I was trying to convey. There is no Magura QUAD clutch with a hot start lever. No such thing.

And the only one listed by Magura Production for bikes is the CRF450. It just happens that Rocky Mountain sells that model as a 'universal' for all those other bikes. It was not designed for them. But apparently will work on them. RM does that with a lot of stuff, so does DK. Moto Joe even does it with some of their nerfs.

That's great, and all I was saying is that in the first picture posted, THAT IS A HOT START LEVER.
