If you really want to, you can sand them down and re-paint them. That's what we do with all of our bikes beadlocks. Also let them sit a few days before you put them back on. If you really want to put them in an oven for the paint to bake on.

ok really rethinking this whole painting thing. would a piece of steel wool remove the scuff marks on the wheels ? would it bring back some of the red? i like my wheels but man the color fades really fast

Thanks,
John

steel wool would take out scratches, if you want them to shine a lot re-paint them. use a couple layers instead of one. when your done painting let it dry for a few hours and clear coat them a few times every 45 minutes

hyper rings can't be powercoated retard hah...

you could always steel wool them and then clearcoat and they will shine again :) no need for paint...just clean them up really good..and clearcoat. :)

I'm very dissappointed with the quality of the rings as well. Mine are fading too. Yes they have a few scratches but they are most definately fading from either the sun or washing. The black interior looks great but the rings just look like crap already. I've only had them for one season - about 10 rides total! I don't know if they ned to look into a better UV package or what:confused: :grr:

yea the red ones dont really hold thier color. black seems to hold good tho, blue seem alright to

i'm not really sure on this, but maybe if you scrape/sand off a little bit on the ring they might be normal colored not to far down

i have used eagle wet one tire shine on the red rings and it brings the red back. Its gone though as soon as you wash it. Ill try to use some WD-40 soon and see how it works on the old rings because ill get new outer ones anyway.

I also have a set of red Hiper rings that are really faded!!!

Has anyone got a way to bring back the luster? If you paint them, I think paint will just crack and look shotty after the first rock.....

im not liable for any damage, but i would steel wool the ** out of em and clean em real well an then go over it with a torch from a good distance.

Ive never done this or heard of anyone doing it. Im just thinking the carbon fiber might react in simlar ways as plastic.

Dont point the bananna at anybody just yet.

There are three routes to powdercoating plastic i have heard about:

1. Use a very high temperature plastic (nylons, polyamides) with standard thermoset powders. May require a prep coat or pre-heating.

2. Use a variety of lower temperature plastics with a low temperature thermoset powder.

3. Use a variety of lower temperature plastics with a UV cure powder.

Last night I boiled about 2 cups of water with one packet of Rit Dye that I bought from Dollar General. I turned the heat off and put one ring in the pan and let it sit overnight. This morning it looks almost as good as new. I will try and post some pictures later this week.

I'm not sure how long the dye will hold up and not fade, but we'll see....

I'll give some feedback in a few weeks and tell you if this dye stands the test of time...

Should I put a coat of clear on them now???

I'm sure you could do the same as I did with other colors as well, assuming you can find Rit Dye to match the rings....
