I am going to be in a few parades this Christmas and need to know if I am going to have problems with my 400 over heating? Is there anything I can do to help prevent it from getting hot?

i think you will be fine in the cooler weather. i guess you could jet it a tad rich and run synthetic oil.

I already run synthetic oil (Mobil 1) so I think I will rejet. we are talking about the pilot jet right???

yeah, i guess the pilot jet. maybe even try dropping the clip on the needle. i found that by barely hitting the gas at all will be controlled by the needle too. if you run the stock needle, i wouldn't go lower than the 4th clip position though.

actually, you won't need to change the pilot jet, but just richen up the fuel screw. i don't know if that will help any or not, but it may.

Thanks Cals I will give that a try. if nothing else I will take a tow strap and let one of the 4x4 quads pull me. :D

If its cold enough and you go fast enough you might be ok. I've learned my lesson from parades though. I decided to go in with a couple of my friends on the 4th of July parade a couple years ago and the pace was just too slow for my 400. My buddy with a Raptor boiled all of his coolant out of his reservoir, and I ended up baking some of my nice ceramic coating off my new CT header. We eventually just said F' it and left to go rip down the backroads since the cops were preoccupied with the local parade. I also don't think ive ever pulled the clutch in and out so many times in one ride :p . Do what cals400ex said, and richen up that fuel mixture a bit more. Just be aware of your pace and how hot your quad is getting. If its a 4-5 mph stop/go pace, don't risk burning up your motor like I almost did.

what if you over heat in a parade then your retarded and so is your bike. i have road in every temp and i ride up in the rpm when its like 100 or even 90 out side and i have never over heated and if your in a parade your going like 5 mph and thats pretty much idle i would worry about it specialy sense your stock if your walls were paper thin maybe. you shouldn't need to rejet or any thing just ride it plus its not like its going to be doing it all day even then it wont

If your bore is stock and its also the winter weather you should be fine. And you should lower the needle clip one postion. also richen up the fuel mixture screw.
