I dont have one personaly, but one of my friends is running it and really likes it. The only thing I know is you have to cut your skid plate other than that its a good deal.

Have read on here in the past that some people have tried the Elka and the Gt Thunder and prefer the Gt Thunder.

Hm starting to be ALOT of options now for suspension. Seems some good companies are doing rebuilds now. Hm so many choices!

exactly. i run the elka set up, and want badly to try GT Thunders unit. houser has it under control as does walsh. i dont think you can go wrong with any of them

Pappy what do you think about the rebuilds companies are doing w/out the link? Such as the GT Thunder? The whole set from Thunder is pretty dang cheap.

im pretty sure gt thunders uses a link, of thier own design. everyone that ive talked to said it a damn good set up.

as far as a rebuild alone. i know that de risi has it figured out and technically i cant say what would make it better over the set up with a link.

my personal take is this....you want to prevent the R frame from cracking you get the rear shock fixed pronto

Ya it caused me to flip over once that and my poor skill :)

i just think the reason the frame is cracking where it is, is in direct relationship to the stress from the angle of the rear shock. i am by no means a techhead on this stuff, but reading some of whats been posted on this subject combined with what ive seen first hand, discussed with suspension builders and examined frames im pretty certain its the culprit.

I'm in this same boat. Trying to make a decision on whether to spend allot of money on a Holz or Walsh system or going with the Gt Thunder for MX. Decisions...Decisions

i have heard from a very reliable source about the linkage's on 450's he has rode the walsh savior linkage with elka shock and walsh swingarm. he has also rode the holtz linkage and swingarm with axis shock, he sias that the walsh will soak up straight line hit's a bit better but that he prefers the holtz because it gives better traction and suspension travel. with the holtz it is required that you use there swingarm and a longer shock that only axis makes in the right lenght for it to work right, right now i've got elka with stock linkage in the back but as soon as i can i'll be getting the holtz linkage and swingarm combo with the axis shock

AC/DC Rocks!!! LOL

I am the guy that will mess and fool around with something for days until its right. I have just started messing with the settings on my shocks and am wondering if I am wasting my time. I run fast trails and desert riding with lots and LOTS of woops, should I just give up now and get the back revalved w/ linkage?

Input here*

Lol, I totally hear you. I haven't gotten the whoops down on my 450 yet either. On my EX I can scream in 4th gear over them but my 450 bucks me all over. Hmm...

Pappy from my understanding, there's really no good way to gusset that area up by the upper motor mount correct?

Pappy
11-20-2004, 03:50 PM
i dont see really how it can be done so that it garuntee's there wont be any more cracks. you gusset one area and a crack shows up a 1/4 inch from the gusset. the problem is still there just further down the line.

Burgard over plated that area for me in hopes of preventing stress from attacking that area and i sure dont ride hard enough to stress anything except my heart:p

ive seen some repairs made to a few pro and pro am riders quads and they are extensive. mainly that type of work is used once normal gussets have failed.

Sounds like to me Honda needs to do some redesigning.
Also Pappy can you PM me a price on having both my 400ex sidecases done in Hotcoats Silvervein? I know you had that special going before, but not sure now.

When I ride down in south jersey there is alot of whoops and I decided to get the GT Thunder revalve and linkage. Its a great price and for the change it made its well worth it. I can hammer thru whoops no problem now. Last time I was down the Jersey shore riding there was a kid with a stock linkage in front of me I wanted to see how bad it looked from behind. Lemme tell ya he was all over the place. I def recommend the GT Thunder its a good upgrade if you dont want to drop alot of cash right away. Pappy do you powdercoat frames. If so how much do you charge?

The Elka rear shock and the Link will help both ALOT!! The longer swingarm is not necessary. Good luck!!
